ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST (Martinsville, VA)

The Accounting Specialist is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, posting journals, payroll, budget requests, vendor maintenance and correspondence, asset management, insurance claims, and other duties assigned. Under the general supervision of the Finance Director, the employee applies generally accepted accounting principles to prepare and maintain financial and related records. The Finance Department is a fast-paced, diverse, and citizen-focused operation that is responsible for the management, accounting, and reporting of the City's financial position, processing payroll, executing fair and competitive procurement opportunities, and managing the City's operating and enterprise funds budgets.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville is seeking an individual for Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney. Must be member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar. Criminal prosecution/defense experience desired but not a requirement. Responsibilities involve extensive trial work in all courts in the prosecution of felony and misdemeanor cases, providing assistance to law enforcement, the general public and any other duties assigned by the Commonwealth's Attorney.

CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE (Martinsville, VA)

This is responsible office support work in the Utility Billing Division which involves responding to a high volume of customer inquiries/complaints regarding their utility accounts. Work requires responding courteously and effectively to customer inquiries, which are sometimes controversial or adversarial; work well under pressure, analyze customer needs, and provide exceptional customer service. Work includes explaining services, policies, and procedures, or directing customers to appropriate individuals, departments or agencies.
Work involves responsibility for responding to and follow-up on citizens' inquiries/complaints, accuracy in placing and answering calls and inquiries, remembering names and office locations of personnel to achieve satisfactory problem resolution and providing general receptionist services. Work requires public contact, mental alertness, tact, accuracy, discretion and confidentiality in handling delegated administrative details. Work is performed in accordance with established practices under the general supervision and review of the Utility Billing Supervisor and is subject to review by the Director of Utilities.

City Attorney (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville is seeking Letters of Interest from qualified individuals to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia. The City Attorney is a contract position hired directly by Martinsville City Council. General requirements of the position include (but are not limited to):

• Must be licensed to practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia with at least five (5) years of active practice immediately preceding the appointment by City Council
• Acts as legal advisor to the Council, City Manager, department heads, City boards, etc. Provide interpretations of codes, ordinances, statutes, legal and legislative proceedings, etc. as may be necessary.
• Prepares ordinances, deeds, contracts, agreements, leases, and other assorted legal documents as may be necessary to transact the business of the Council and City;
• Attends Council meetings in person, or assigns an assistant to do so;
• Institute, prosecute, and participate in legal proceedings necessary to protect the interest of the City;

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department is accepting applications for full-time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics to staff an ambulance for its Patient Transport Division. The Patient Transport Division will provide non-emergent ambulance transport for non-ambulatory patients discharged from Sovah Health - Martinsville to locations within the Martinsville and Henry County region.

Applicants must meet the following requirements: (1) possess a high school diploma or equivalent; (2) be at least 18 years of age; (3) possess a valid Virginia driver's license; (4) have satisfactory employment and background investigation; and (5) currently possess a minimum of Virginia EMT and EVOC certification.

Based on EMS certification level, full-time starting pay is $40,00 up to $48,890 annually for full-time positions.

Pre-employment physical and drug test are required for selected applicants. In addition, interview information will be provided to selected applicants.

FIREFIGHTER/EMS FULL-TIME (Martinsville, VA)

FIREFIGHTER/EMS FULL-TIME
The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department is testing for current full-time positions. Minimum requirements: possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Virginia driver's license, current Virginia Firefighter I and EMT certifications, and pass a satisfactory employment and background investigation. Preference is given to applicants holding ALS certifications.
Starting full-time pay range -$45,455 - $51,000, based on Virginia Firefighter and EMS certifications.
A $3,500 - $6,000 hire-on bonus is offered for new full-time personnel based on Virginia Firefighter and EMS certifications.
Full-time benefits include Virginia Retirement System options, paid sick leave, holiday and vacation time options, health insurance options, hazardous duty pay options, higher education incentives, and more.
Minimum qualifications to test: Virginia Firefighter I and EMT.
Candidates must successfully complete physical agility and EMS assessment testing. Testing information will be provided to selected applicants.

Part Time Assistant Director City of Martinsville Victim-Witness Position (Martinsville, VA)

Part Time Assistant Director for the City of Martinsville Victim-Witness Position

Under the general supervision of the Victim Witness Director, the Part-Time Assistant Director performs crisis intervention, advocacy and case management duties for victims of crime. The part-time position is housed in the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney and works closely with the Police Department, Court personnel, State agencies and other human service delivery organizations. This position provides criminal justice process and victims' rights information; sends out correspondence to victims at various stages of the criminal justice process; assists victims with filing claims with the Virginia Victims Fund; and assists victims with the submission of Victim Impact Statements. The job involves providing court advocacy to crime victims, assessing needs, making referrals to other human service agencies and developing service plans.

This position is also responsible for maintaining a variety of records and files pertaining to assigned cases and preparing reports. This position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and initiative in ensuring the proper services are delivered to clients and the general public. In the absence of the director, this position will perform his/her duties.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, criminal justice or a related human services environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. This is a part-time position with no benefits. Hours worked per month are 1040 with hourly pay based on experience. Please complete an application and attach a cover letter and resume.

The City of Martinsville, VA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. For certified applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire. Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. For all applicants high school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.
