Performs specialized professional work in assisting with coordinating the City's emergency preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery efforts. Duties involve assisting in managing the citywide safety program of all departments under the jurisdiction of the Emergency Management Coordinator/Safety Officer and City Manager, thus ensuring compliance with safety/environmental regulatory mandates. Serves as the Incident Safety Officer during fire and EMS operations if needed. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Emergency Management Coordinator/Safety Officer. Performs highly varied and complex engineering duties in connection with the planning, design, improvement, and inspection of engineering and construction projects in the City, with particular emphasis on transportation and infrastructure. Work also involves providing technical support in responding to citizen concerns pertaining to drainage, erosion, traffic, utility systems, or other departmental issues. Supervision may be exercised over other personnel of a lower classification. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works.

Performs highly responsible, skilled, technical, and administrative work within the Community Development/Inspections Department. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing inspections of buildings and properties for compliance with federal and state codes and local ordinances. This position requires certification and demonstrated skills in construction, building codes, related laws, public education, media relations, administrative tasks, and strong customer service skills. This position requires knowledge of the methods of investigation utilized in code compliance inspections.

Performs difficult professional, supervisory, and administrative work related to planning, organizing, directing, and managing the financial and auditing functions of the City to include financial systems and accounting, payroll, purchasing, and risk management; exercises either direct or functional control over the budget process under the general direction of the City Manager.
FIREFIGHTER/EMS FULL AND PART-TIME
The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department, is testing for current part-time and future full-time positions. Applicants must meet the following requirements: possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Virginia driver's license, have current Virginia firefighter/EMT and/or Paramedic certification(s), and pass a satisfactory employment and background investigation. Preference given to applicants holding ALS certifications.
Starting part-time pay range - $15.04 to $17.30/hour, based on Virginia EMS certification.
Starting full-time pay range - $36,351 to $44,282/annual, based on Virginia firefighter/EMS certification.
$6,ooo hire on bonus offered for Virginia certified Firefighter II/Paramedic new fulltime hires.
Minimum qualifications to test: Virginia Paramedic and/or firefighter/EMT.
Pre-employment physical, background investigation, and drug test required for selected applicants. Test date is August 28, 2021. Testing information will be provided to selected applicants.

This is responsible, advanced work providing important clerical assistance and file maintenance of court records in the Records and Services Unit Division of the Police Department.

This is skilled labor and trade work within the Refuse Dept. of Public Works. Work involves driving motorized vehicles and equipment, including skid-steer loader, rubber-tire loaders, motor grader, dump trucks, flusher truck, and similar motorized construction equipment. Preference will be given to applicants that currently hold a valid CDL with tanker endorsement.
This is skilled work in the operation of water treatment equipment in a water plant on an assigned shift. Work involves responsibility for the operation of water pumping and related equipment, and for making adjustments to equipment as required. Work also includes inspection and operation of electrical control boards, motors, pumps, meters and related equipment. Work is performed with some latitude for independent judgment and action, and is reviewed by superiors through reports, inspections and resulting observations.
