Certified Police Officer (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville, VA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. For certified applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire. Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. For all applicants high school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.

FIREFIGHTER/EMS FULL-TIME and PART-TIME (Martinsville, VA)

FIREFIGHTER/EMS FULL-TIME and PART-TIME
The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department is testing for full-time and part-time positions.

Full-Time Minimum Requirements: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, and possess a valid Virginia driver's license. Preference is given to applicants holding current Virginia Firefighter I and EMT certifications.

Part-Time Minimum Requirements: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, and possess a valid Virginia driver's license. Must also have a minimum of Virginia Firefighter I, EMT-B, and EVOC Level III.

The starting full-time pay range for certified hires, based on Virginia Firefighter and EMS certifications, is $45,455 - $51,367.
The starting full-time pay range for non-certified hires is $41,229 - $43,290 until academy training is complete.
The pay range for Part-Time Firefighters, based on Virginia Firefighter and EMS certifications, is $18.95 - $21.50.

A $3,500 - $6,000 hire-on bonus is offered for new certified full-time personnel based on Virginia Firefighter and EMS certifications.

Full-time benefits include Virginia Retirement System options, paid sick leave, holiday and vacation time options, health insurance options, hazardous duty pay options, higher education incentives, and more.
Candidates must successfully complete physical agility and EMS assessment testing. Testing information will be provided to selected applicants.
Pre-employment physical, background investigation, and drug test required for selected applicants.
If selected, candidates are required to obtain their Paramedic certification within three years of employment.

Refuse Supervisor (Martinsville, VA)

This is supervisory work in the maintenance, repair, and construction of public works facilities, systems, and related operations. Work involves responsibility of supervising, training, and assisting other assigned workers in the maintenance and construction of public facilities. An employee of this class generally follows standard methods and techniques in maintenance and construction activities and is expected to exercise independent judgment in the completion of regular day-to-day activities.

Refuse Worker (Martinsville, VA)

The Refuse Collector collects garbage as part of a refuse collection crew. This is routine but heavy manual work and may be performed under adverse weather conditions. Employees regularly perform their tasks at a rapid pace. Employees work under the general supervision of the Crew Supervisor and may provide leadership to other employees and/or crew members as assigned.

Utility Maintenance Worker (Martinsville, VA)

This is skilled labor and trades work performing a variety of construction, repair, and maintenance assignments that require the use of specialized tools and equipment. Work involves the responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of equipment used in construction and maintenance repair activities. Work is distinguished by the level of work performed and the combination and variety of skills required. Employees work under the general supervision of the Crew Supervisor and may provide leadership to other employees and/or crew members as assigned.

Wastewater Plant Operator Trainee (Martinsville, VA)

This is skilled work in the operation of wastewater treatment and related equipment in a
wastewater plant on an assigned shift. The trainee learns the operation of the wastewater plant and how to
conduct standard tests. Work is performed with increasing independence, based on work experience in the
plant operation and on individual performance. The amount of independence allowed and the procedures
used emphasize the ability to perform work under limited supervision and to meet operating emergencies
following precedents and practices based upon experience and training. A superior is usually available to
provide assistance when needed, and work is reviewed through operating reports, inspections, conferences,
and observation of results obtained.
