ADMINISTRATOR OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS (Martinsville, VA)

This is a highly responsible professional and administrative role in planning, coordinating, and directing all operations and activities of information, network, and related technology systems within the City. The work involves ensuring the systems and servers operate smoothly and managing the staff and overall operations to ensure stable operation of the organization's technology infrastructure. This includes developing, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing key functional areas such as network infrastructure, data communications, microcomputers, and related peripherals and operations. The role reports to the City Manager or his/her designee.

AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC (Martinsville, VA)

This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of municipal automotive equipment. Work involves performing skilled mechanical repair work of a journeyman level on equipment assigned to various city departments; assignments are given orally by the supervisor with a description of the work to be performed and schedule to be followed. Employees in this class work with considerable technical independence; however, a supervisor is usually available on more difficult problems. Work is reviewed in progress and upon completion for quality of results obtained.

AUTOMOTIVE SHOP SUPERVISOR (Martinsville, VA)

This is highly skilled and responsible technical supervisory work in directing the activities of the City's automotive repair and maintenance shop.  Work involves planning, directing, assigning, scheduling and participating, when needed, in the work of mechanics in the repair and maintenance of light and heavy-duty automotive equipment.  Work also involves the responsibility for the efficient performance of a variety of automotive repair and machinist's tasks under the diagnosis of complex equipment malfunctions.  Responsibility extends as well to the preparation and maintenance of service records; requisitioning or purchasing, and custody of replacement and repair parts, materials, and supplies; and preparation of labor and cost records and basic work budgets.  Work is performed with latitude for independent judgment and action and is reviewed by a superior through conferences, reports, and by inspection of repaired work. 

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville is seeking an individual for Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney. Must be member in good standing with the Virginia State Bar. Criminal prosecution/defense experience desired but not a requirement. Responsibilities involve extensive trial work in all courts in the prosecution of felony and misdemeanor cases, providing assistance to law enforcement, the general public and any other duties assigned by the Commonwealth's Attorney.

Certified Police Officer (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville, VA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. For certified applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire. Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. For all applicants high school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.

City Attorney (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville is seeking Letters of Interest from qualified individuals to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia. The City Attorney is a contract position hired directly by Martinsville City Council. General requirements of the position include (but are not limited to):

• Must be licensed to practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia with at least five (5) years of active practice immediately preceding the appointment by City Council
• Acts as legal advisor to the Council, City Manager, department heads, City boards, etc. Provide interpretations of codes, ordinances, statutes, legal and legislative proceedings, etc. as may be necessary.
• Prepares ordinances, deeds, contracts, agreements, leases, and other assorted legal documents as may be necessary to transact the business of the Council and City;
• Attends Council meetings in person, or assigns an assistant to do so;
• Institute, prosecute, and participate in legal proceedings necessary to protect the interest of the City;

JOB TITLE: ASSISTANT FINANCE DIRECTOR (Martinsville, VA)

Under the general supervision of the Director of Finance, performs difficult professional, supervisor and administrative work related    to planning,   organizing, directing,                             and managing the financial and auditing functions of the City to include financial systems and accounting, payroll, and purchasing.  Work involves assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and continuing review of revenue and expenditure estimates; advising the Finance Director and the City Manager of the financial operations, investments, cash flow, and related through financial   reports,   analysis, and presentations. Work is reviewed for adherence to budgetary, fiscal and program policies, and the effectiveness of results.

MANAGING DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT (Martinsville, VA)

This is a senior-level managerial and advanced professional planning position that involves coordinating the City's planning, inspection, and economic development activities. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the role requires overseeing the development and revision of comprehensive and neighborhood plans, promoting and developing industrial, commercial, and residential areas, and supervising zoning and inspection activities. The position also provides staff support for the Planning Commission and the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) board. The work involves administering state and federal grant programs, fostering public-private partnerships, and supporting economic growth initiatives.

The employee supervises technical and clerical staff, acquires professional consultant services, and manages the planning and assignment of work activities. The role demands considerable technical independence and adherence to general guidelines and policies issued by relevant governmental agencies.

MARTINSVILLE FULL TIME CIRC ASSISTANT (Martinsville, VA)

Traffic Services Tech (Martinsville, VA)

This is skilled technical work in the installation, testing, and maintenance of telecommunications facilities, fiber optic and copper cabling according to all communications industry standards. The work involves programming and installation of customer premise and related technical equipment such as switches and routers, as well as all phases of constructing, testing, and maintaining the traffic signal network throughout the City. Employees in this class work under the supervision of the Lead Traffic Signals Technician but are capable of working independently, performing routine maintenance tasks, and other duties as required.
