ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER (Martinsville, VA)
Performs complex professional and administrative work assisting and advising the City Manager in the overall management and administration of the City government and helping to ensure that administrative duties for which the City Manager is responsible are accomplished. Serves as City Manager in his/her absence. The employee manages several City departments and/or divisions and performs a variety of assignments relating to the general administration, planning and evaluation of the operations and programs of City Government. Significant projects may be assigned by the City Manager and involve a high level of expertise, coordination, analysis, and political sensitivity. The employee investigates and resolves complaints, questions, and concerns from City Council members, City staff, public and private agencies, and the general public. Work is performed under the general direction of the City Manager.
ASSISTANT REAL ESTATE ASSESSOR (Martinsville, VA)
Performs general real estate assessment and reassessment work on all real property, primarily residential; assists the public with real estate and mapping issues and questions; enters field data collected including photographs, measurements, drawings and calculations; takes and updates photos into permanent real estate records. Reports to the Commissioner of the Revenue and the Real Estate Assessor.
CITY ENGINEER (Martinsville, VA)
Performs highly varied and complex engineering duties in connection with the planning, design, improvement, and inspection of engineering and construction projects in the City, with particular emphasis on transportation and infrastructure. Work also involves providing technical support in responding to citizen concerns pertaining to drainage, erosion, traffic, utility systems, or other departmental issues. Supervision may be exercised over other personnel of a lower classification. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR (Martinsville, VA)
This is managerial and advanced professional planning work of an administrative and highly skilled technical nature coordinating the City's planning and inspection activities. Work involves the coordination and supervision of the development and revision of the comprehensive and neighborhood plans for the City; planning, promoting, and developing industrial, commercial, and residential areas; overseeing inspection and zoning activities; and advising and providing staff support for the Planning Commission. Work also includes research and planning involving community development projects and planning studies, and administering various state and federal grant programs (e.g., Community Development Block Grant projects).
The employee supervises technical and clerical employees; acquires a variety of professional consultant services; plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns work activities; and researches procedures and program options. Under the direction of the City Manager, work is performed with considerable technical independence and according to general guidelines and policies issued by the appropriate governmental agencies.
City Attorney (Martinsville, VA)
The City of Martinsville is seeking Letters of Interest from qualified individuals to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia. The City Attorney is a contract position hired directly by Martinsville City Council. General requirements of the position include (but are not limited to):
• Must be licensed to practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia with at least five (5) years of active practice immediately preceding the appointment by City Council
• Acts as legal advisor to the Council, City Manager, department heads, City boards, etc. Provide interpretations of codes, ordinances, statutes, legal and legislative proceedings, etc. as may be necessary.
• Prepares ordinances, deeds, contracts, agreements, leases, and other assorted legal documents as may be necessary to transact the business of the Council and City;
• Attends Council meetings in person, or assigns an assistant to do so;
• Institute, prosecute, and participate in legal proceedings necessary to protect the interest of the City;

It is anticipated that at a minimum, this will be a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation and additional details can be discussed and negotiated. The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department, is testing for current part-time and full-time positions. Minimum requirements: possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Virginia driver's license, have current Virginia firefighter/EMT and/or Paramedic certification(s), and pass a satisfactory employment and background investigation. Preference given to applicants holding ALS certifications.
Starting part-time pay range - $15.79 to $18.53/hour, based on Virginia firefighter/EMS certification.
Minimum starting pay - $37,736 (FF/EMT) to $48,267(FF/PM) annual, based on Virginia firefighter/EMS certification.
$6,000 Hire-on Bonus Offered for New Fulltime Virginia Certified Firefighter II/Paramedics

Performs highly-skilled professional and administrative duties related to accounting and payroll activities of the City, Schools and all organizations for which the City is fiscal agent. WASTEWATER OPERATOR-TRAINEE (Martinsville, VA)
This is skilled work in the operation of wastewater treatment and related equipment in a wastewater plant on an assigned shift. The trainee learns the operation of the wastewater plant and how to conduct standard tests. Work is performed with increasing independence, based on work experience in the plant operation and on individual performance. The amount of independence allowed and the procedures used emphasize the ability to perform work under limited supervision and to meet operating emergencies following precedents and practices based upon experience and training. A superior is usually available to provide assistance when needed, and work is reviewed through operating reports, inspections, conferences, and observation of results obtained.
