CUSTODIAN (Martinsville, VA)

This is manual work in the care and cleaning of public buildings. Work involves responsibility for the efficient performance of a variety of custodial and minor building maintenance tasks of an arduous nature in and around public buildings. Work is generally performed in accordance with established procedures, but specific instructions may be given on unusual jobs or problems. Work is subject to inspection by the Building Maintenance Supervisor or the superior for maintenance of established standards of cleanliness and compliance with instructions.

Certified Police Officer (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville, VA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. For certified applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire. Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. For all applicants high school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.

City Attorney (Martinsville, VA)

The City of Martinsville is seeking Letters of Interest from qualified individuals to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia. The City Attorney is a contract position hired directly by Martinsville City Council. General requirements of the position include (but are not limited to):

• Must be licensed to practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia with at least five (5) years of active practice immediately preceding the appointment by City Council
• Acts as legal advisor to the Council, City Manager, department heads, City boards, etc. Provide interpretations of codes, ordinances, statutes, legal and legislative proceedings, etc. as may be necessary.
• Prepares ordinances, deeds, contracts, agreements, leases, and other assorted legal documents as may be necessary to transact the business of the Council and City;
• Attends Council meetings in person, or assigns an assistant to do so;
• Institute, prosecute, and participate in legal proceedings necessary to protect the interest of the City;

Part Time Assistant Director City of Martinsville Victim-Witness Position (Martinsville, VA)

Part Time Assistant Director for the City of Martinsville Victim-Witness Position

Under the general supervision of the Victim Witness Director, the Part-Time Assistant Director performs crisis intervention, advocacy and case management duties for victims of crime. The part-time position is housed in the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney and works closely with the Police Department, Court personnel, State agencies and other human service delivery organizations. This position provides criminal justice process and victims' rights information; sends out correspondence to victims at various stages of the criminal justice process; assists victims with filing claims with the Virginia Victims Fund; and assists victims with the submission of Victim Impact Statements. The job involves providing court advocacy to crime victims, assessing needs, making referrals to other human service agencies and developing service plans.

This position is also responsible for maintaining a variety of records and files pertaining to assigned cases and preparing reports. This position requires the ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and initiative in ensuring the proper services are delivered to clients and the general public. In the absence of the director, this position will perform his/her duties.

The position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in social work, criminal justice or a related human services environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience. This is a part-time position with no benefits. Hours worked per month are 1040 with hourly pay based on experience. Please complete an application and attach a cover letter and resume.
