Performs complex professional and administrative work assisting and advising the City Manager in the overall management and administration of the City government and helping to ensure that administrative duties for which the City Manager is responsible are accomplished. Serves as City Manager in his/her absence. The employee manages several City departments and/or divisions and performs a variety of assignments relating to the general administration, planning and evaluation of the operations and programs of City Government. Significant projects may be assigned by the City Manager and involve a high level of expertise, coordination, analysis, and political sensitivity. The employee investigates and resolves complaints, questions, and concerns from City Council members, City staff, public and private agencies, and the general public. Work is performed under the general direction of the City Manager.
This is responsible and professional work in the area of video production, cable programming of local government television channel.
Performs highly varied and complex engineering duties in connection with the planning, design, improvement, and inspection of engineering and construction projects in the City, with particular emphasis on transportation and infrastructure. Work also involves providing technical support in responding to citizen concerns pertaining to drainage, erosion, traffic, utility systems, or other departmental issues. Supervision may be exercised over other personnel of a lower classification. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works.

This is managerial and advanced professional planning work of an administrative and highly skilled technical nature coordinating the City's planning and inspection activities. Work involves the coordination and supervision of the development and revision of the comprehensive and neighborhood plans for the City; planning, promoting, and developing industrial, commercial, and residential areas; overseeing inspection and zoning activities; and advising and providing staff support for the Planning Commission. Work also includes research and planning involving community development projects and planning studies, and administering various state and federal grant programs (e.g., Community Development Block Grant projects).
The employee supervises technical and clerical employees; acquires a variety of professional consultant services; plans, organizes, schedules, and assigns work activities; and researches procedures and program options. Under the direction of the City Manager, work is performed with considerable technical independence and according to general guidelines and policies issued by the appropriate governmental agencies.
The City of Martinsville is seeking Letters of Interest from qualified individuals to serve as the City Attorney for the City of Martinsville, Virginia. The City Attorney is a contract position hired directly by Martinsville City Council. General requirements of the position include (but are not limited to):
• Must be licensed to practice under the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia with at least five (5) years of active practice immediately preceding the appointment by City Council
• Acts as legal advisor to the Council, City Manager, department heads, City boards, etc. Provide interpretations of codes, ordinances, statutes, legal and legislative proceedings, etc. as may be necessary.
• Prepares ordinances, deeds, contracts, agreements, leases, and other assorted legal documents as may be necessary to transact the business of the Council and City;
• Attends Council meetings in person, or assigns an assistant to do so;
• Institute, prosecute, and participate in legal proceedings necessary to protect the interest of the City;

It is anticipated that at a minimum, this will be a part-time position averaging approximately 20 hours per week. Compensation and additional details can be discussed and negotiated. FIREFIGHTER/EMS FULL AND PART-TIME
The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department, is testing for current part-time and full-time positions. Minimum requirements: possess a high school diploma or equivalent, be at least 18 years of age, possess a valid Virginia driver's license, have current Virginia firefighter/EMT and/or Paramedic certification(s), and pass a satisfactory employment and background investigation. Preference given to applicants holding ALS certifications.
Starting part-time pay range - $15.79 to $18.53/hour, based on Virginia firefighter/EMS certification.
Minimum starting pay - $37,736 (FF/EMT) to $48,267(FF/PM) annual, based on Virginia firefighter/EMS certification.
$6,000 Hire-on Bonus Offered for New Fulltime Virginia Certified Firefighter II/Paramedics

This is highly responsible professional, administrative and technical work in planning and directing all activities of the Public Works Department, including overall responsibility for the following divisions: Buildings and Grounds, Refuse Collection, Street Maintenance and Construction, City Garage, Engineering, Refuse, Street Cleaning and Street Markings and Signs.
Performs highly responsible, skilled, technical, and administrative work within the Community Development/Inspections Department. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing inspections of buildings and properties for compliance with federal and state codes and local ordinances. This position requires certification and demonstrated skills in construction, building codes, related laws, public education, media relations, administrative tasks, and strong customer service skills. This position requires knowledge of the methods of investigation utilized in code compliance inspections.

The City of Martinsville, VA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. For certified applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire. Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. Governmental office seeks an entry-level tax auditor to conduct audits of financial records to determine tax liability for city business licenses, tangible personal property and assist taxpayers with questions regarding their state income taxes. Other duties will include some data entry requiring word processing and Excel spreadsheet skills. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and will have a strong knowledge of state and federal income tax returns, in addition to being a stickler for detail with excellent communication and math skills. An associate's degree in business, finance or accounting is a minimum requirement. 1-2 years accounting, bookkeeping, or tax preparation experience is preferred.

The City of Martinsville is seeking applicants for the position of Utility Maintenance Worker (Water Resources). This is skilled labor and trade work performing construction, repair, and maintenance of water/sewer facilities.
This is skilled work in the operation of wastewater treatment and related equipment in a wastewater plant on an assigned shift. The trainee learns the operation of the wastewater plant and how to conduct standard tests. Work is performed with increasing independence, based on work experience in the plant operation and on individual performance. The amount of independence allowed and the procedures used emphasize the ability to perform work under limited supervision and to meet operating emergencies following precedents and practices based upon experience and training. A superior is usually available to provide assistance when needed, and work is reviewed through operating reports, inspections, conferences, and observation of results obtained.
This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of water purification and pollution control plant machinery and equipment. Work involves responsibility for assisting a plant mechanic in the performance of a variety of repair and maintenance tasks in maintaining the efficient operation of water purification plant and water pollution control plant and related water storage and pump station facilities. Work is primarily of a mechanical nature. Work assignments may arise as a result of breakdowns in the plants, from inspections of operating conditions of the plants, preventive maintenance tasks or specific instructions from the mechanic or plant maintenance supervisor. Work is inspected in process and upon completion for quality of work and operating results.
