This is skilled work in the maintenance and repair of municipal automotive equipment. Work involves performing skilled mechanical repair work of a journeyman level on equipment assigned to various city departments; assignments are given orally by the supervisor with a description of the work to be performed and schedule to be followed. The City of Martinsville, VA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer. For certified applicants, possess a current Virginia law enforcement certification or have relinquished certification within two years preceding date of hire. Must have completed one consecutive year of sworn service upon completion of a field training program. Must have left former agency in good standing to be considered. For all applicants high school diploma or GED; must be a US citizen; successful applicants must pass a physical agility test, possess or be eligible for a Virginia driver's license with no more than six demerit points in the past twelve months and no DUI conviction within the past five years; binocular vision of 20/25 corrected; weight in proportion to height; no conviction of felonies and/or habitual misdemeanors; no conviction of, or guilty plea or no contest pleas to: misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including petit larceny; any misdemeanor sex offense; or any domestic assault; pass an extensive background investigation which includes a polygraph, psychological, medical and drug screening.
Code Compliance Inspector (Martinsville, VA)
Performs highly responsible, skilled, technical, and administrative work within the Community Development/Inspections Department. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing inspections of buildings and properties for compliance with federal and state codes and local ordinances. This position requires certification and demonstrated skills in construction, building codes, related laws, public education, media relations, administrative tasks, and strong customer service skills. This position requires knowledge of the methods of investigation utilized in code compliance inspections.
There are 3 levels of Codes Compliance Inspectors, Part-Time, I, and II. These levels are distinguished by level of work performed, type of work performed, qualifications and certifications, and experience. Appointment to each position is not automatic, but based on availability at the time of application.
EMT and Paramedics - Patient Transport Division (Martinsville, VA)
The City of Martinsville Fire & EMS Department is accepting applications for full-time and part-time Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and Paramedics to staff an ambulance for its Patient Transport Division. The Patient Transport Division will provide non-emergent ambulance transport for non-ambulatory patients discharged from Sovah Health - Martinsville to locations within the Martinsville and Henry County regions.
Applicants must meet the following requirements: (1) possess a high school diploma or equivalent; (2) be at least 18 years of age; (3) possess a valid Virginia driver's license; (4) have satisfactory employment and background investigation; and (5) currently possess a minimum of Virginia EMT and EVOC Level II certification.
Based on EMS certification level, full-time starting pay is $41,000 up to $50,000 annually for full-time positions and $18.95 to $21.50 per hour for part-time positions. Additionally, based on certifications, there will be a 90-day hire-on bonus of $1,000.00 - $3,000 for full-time positions.

WASTEWATER PLANT SOLIDS HANDLING COORDINATOR (Martinsville, VA)
This is responsible technical work in the operation of the sludge handling facility at the Water Pollution Control Plant. Work involves supervising sludge disposal activities according to established procedures. Work may also include the supervision of plant operators and laborers. Work is performed under the general direction of the plant supervisor and work is reviewed through observation, inspection, and records for adherence to established standards and for proper operations.
