Heavy Equipment Operator I (Madison Heights, VA)
Amherst County is looking for an experienced heavy equipment operator to join our Public Works team. Experience operating dump trucks, loaders, compactors, and/or bull dozers is required with experience working in a landfill or transfer station setting preferred. Mechanical experience providing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment will set an applicant apart. This is a full time position with a required Saturday rotation.
Punctuality and attendance are important requirements of the job. The ability to interact in a professional manner with the public and co-workers is essential. Flexibility is key as staff may be called on to fill in on other equipment or in other positions as needed.
The salary range is $47,000 to $49,000 and is dependent on qualifications and experience. Amherst County offers a generous benefit package including participation in the Virginia Retirement System which includes a traditional pension and deferred compensation with employer match, employer paid life and disability insurance, vacation and sick leave, affordable medical, dental and vision insurance, etc.
