Position Summary
Agile Coaches provide active coaching, education, and mentoring in support of Agile/DevOps approaches, methods, practices, and techniques to the Business Stakeholder. They are responsible for coaching and teaching teams to become higher performing while emphasizing agile values and principles. An Agile Coach influences all levels of the organization to foster trust, transparency, autonomy, quality, speed, and innovation in a safe environment using Agile frameworks. An Agile Coach works with teams to own the process and shares techniques that allow the team to adjust along the way. An Agile Coach shows leadership qualities that influence organizational and team agility in alignment with business values. Agile Coaches serve as a role model and change champion for applying Lean & Agile principles and practices.

Job Duties/Essential Functions 
  • Coaches, mentors and guides Agile / DevOps teams in becoming self-sustaining, high-performing Agile teams. 
  • Coaches Agile / DevOps practices, techniques, and frameworks such as Scrum, XP and Kanban, reducing the gap between Agile / DevOps theory and practice. 
  • Develops, tracks and monitors Agile / DevOps metrics on things that affect value-driven delivery and indicate potential problems, and assist teams in implementing solutions to remediate those problems. 
  • Encourages adoption of Agile practices to improve delivery, communication and teaming skills.
  • Instructs teams on problem solving techniques to Identify organizational impediments to successful Agile transformation and work with the leadership team to create effective strategies to overcome them. 
  • Creates and delivers targeted Agile / DevOps workshops that offer effective practices and provides guidance on using Agile / DevOps principles to enable Costco IT to scale. 
  • Fosters an environment of mutual respect, trust, collaboration, transparency, autonomy, innovation and quality. 
  • Recognizes and addresses needs and sensitivities, lowers barriers, and fosters cross-functional teams, communication and joint action. 
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams to assess the overall health of business agility and help them identify improvement opportunities. 
  • Partners with other Leaders, Agile Coaches, Office of Change Management (OCM), Talent Management and Delivery Teams to help influence an environment of consistency and transparency throughout the organization. 
  • Serves as change agent for teams across the organization for Agile / DevOps, Kanban and Lean frameworks and offers guidance and training on effective ways to use physical and electronic tools. 
  • Builds solid working relationships and uses effective skills in working with cross-functional groups across the organization. 
  • Coaches and supports the enterprise IT reimagined strategy and Costco’s Agile / DevOps strategy. 
  • Coaches, mentors, and guides Agile / DevOps teams in delivering products with more frequency and smoother workflow. 
  • Teaches and shares Agile / DevOps knowledge and perspectives that foster the personal and professional growth of team members. 
  • Guides and influences the creative process that inspires teams to embrace Agile frameworks.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives that result in improved team communication and business value delivery. 
  • Coaches teams to assess, measure, document, and communicate progress against defined Agile / DevOps transformation goals. 
  • Generates new ideas, supports change, encourages innovation and helps to creatively solve problems
  • Provides strategic guidance in Program and Portfolio roadmaps, value stream mapping and in overcoming organizational impediments. 
  • Assists and participates in Agile iteration and release planning across the organization. 
  • Serves as a contributing member of a high performing Agile/DevOps coaching team, responsible for facilitating the adoption, implementation, and sustainability of Agile/DevOps processes, principles, and practices. 
  • Provides high-touch and hands-on team guidance, support, and coaching in close cooperation and collaboration across all roles and functions to facilitate increasing maturity at a sustainable pace. 
  • Acts as a trusted advisor to each DevOps team they are immersed with to guide those teams through their Agile / DevOps transformation. 
  • Leads workshops and training sessions to educate individuals on Agile Values, Principles, and Practices. 
  • Generates new ideas, supports change, encourages innovation and helps to creatively solve problems. 
  • Collaborates with Enterprise Agility leadership to create a roadmap for sustaining agility as the organization evolves 
  • Coaches and supports business users and business portfolios on enterprise agility processes, agile framework, and drives best practices around ceremonies and participation in the ceremonies. 
  • Coaches, mentors, and guides portfolios in becoming self-sustaining, high-performing Agile teams.
  • Regular and reliable workplace attendance at your assigned location.

Experience, Skills, Education & Licenses/Certifications
Required: 
  • 3+ years of Agile coaching experience, guiding teams across business portfolios or IT divisions through the varied challenges of Agile adoption. 
  • Strong skills of leading without formal authority, coaching and teaching. 
  • Certified as an Agile Coach. 
  • Excellent written/verbal communication and facilitation skills

Recommended: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • 2+ years hands-on experience with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or similar Agile-at-scale methods. 
  • Experience leading enterprise-level Agile transformations. 
  • Familiarity with portfolio management frameworks and agile reporting. 
  • Experience mentoring senior leaders and facilitating cultural change in large organizations.
  • Experience using SharePoint to access, organize, and collaborate on documents and team resources. 
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.
  • Successful internal candidates will have spent one year or more on their current team.

Salary 
  • ​​​Pay Range: $85,000 - $115,000
