The Coating Technician is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory procedures, including chemical and physical sample preparation, chemical analysis and part analysis, and data collection, utilizing specialized equipment to ensure accurate results while adhering to strict safety protocols and quality control standards within a research and production environment. A Coating Technician is required to have a strong understanding of chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.

Responsibilities

Sample and Part Preparation:
  • Accurately prepare chemical samples for analysis by weighing, measuring, diluting, and mixing chemicals according to established procedures.
  • Using GLP and GMP prepare test pieces and production implants using organic chemistry procedures and specialized fixturing.
Instrument Operation:
  • Operate and maintain various laboratory instruments like spectrophotometers, microscopes, FTIR, pH meters, and balances, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
Chemical Analysis:
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses using established techniques like titration, spectroscopy, and chromatography.
Data Collection and Recording:
  • Precisely record experimental data, including observations, measurements, and calculations, maintaining detailed laboratory notebooks or production shop travelers, guide sheets, data logs using GMP foundations.
Quality Control:
  • Monitor and implement quality control measures dictated by Quality System Manuals to ensure accuracy and reliability of results, identifying and reporting any discrepancies.
Safety Compliance:
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols, including proper handling of hazardous chemicals, waste disposal, and personal protective equipment usage.
Equipment Maintenance:
  •  Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment, identifying and reporting any malfunctioning instruments.
Documentation and Reporting:
  •  Prepare clear and concise laboratory reports, documenting experimental procedures, results, and conclusions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering or a related scientific field
  • Demonstrated proficiency in following GMP and GLP practices
  • Strong understanding of chemical principles and laboratory techniques
  • Proficiency in operating various laboratory instruments
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and regulations
  • Computer literacy for data analysis and report generation
