This is going to be a 6 month contract to hire, located in Chicago, IL (Hybrid – 3 days onsite, 2 days remote). As a Technical Writer you will be supporting the Technical Publications Department within the Aircraft Technical Services Division.  You will be responsible for organizing, writing, editing, and publishing a variety of maintenance documentation which can include but not limited to Service Bulletins (hardware/software), Aircraft Maintenance Manuals, Illustrated Part Catalogs, and Wiring Diagram Manuals. You must enjoy working in a dynamic environment where you are managing multiple documents on any given day and are ready for new challenges and opportunities.

Technical Writer Requirements:
  • Advanced experience with Structured FrameMaker (SGML or XML)
    • Must be able to share how they have utilized Structured FrameMaker and what types of documents they have structured and designed for technical content.
    • Familiarity with Arbotext and how it is utilized
  • Experience with S1000D XML
    • Must be proficient and understand how it is utilized for business requiring processes and controls, as well as technical and non-technical publications.
    • Strong understanding and experience with XML specification for preparing, managing, and using equipment maintenance and operations information.
  • Experience with illustrating programs such as Corel Draw and Adobe Illustrator
  • Proven Ability to read, analyze, and interpret engineering drawings, charts, wiring diagrams, schematics, and assembly/test procedures.
  • Proven ability to work unsupervised in a highly dynamic environment.
Nice to Have Skills:
  • A&P License
  • Has worked with a content management system (Windchill or similar)
  • Experience with creating maintenance manuals
  • Has a maintenance background on Aircraft
  • Experience using Microsoft Access for input into the database.
Technical Writer Responsibilities:
  • You will write and/or revise, manage multiple documents in S1000D and iSpec2200 and work with persons inside and outside the Technical Publications department.
  • You will coordinate your work activity, status, and schedule.
  • Analyzing available source data
  • Ensure the technical accuracy, adequacy, and quality of technical publications using our processes.
  • Coordinate the review and release of publication products with customers and other organizations; and classifying and tracking discrepancies noted through the review process.
  • Mentor existing staff to create industry leading manuals and Service Bulletins
