Position Summary:
The Staff Accountant at AES plays a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting and supporting daily accounting operations. This position is responsible for assisting with month-end close processes, financial reporting, inventory cost analysis, and reconciliation of key accounts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting foundation, analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. This role demands the ability to manage multiple priorities while adhering to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Salary: The anticipated annual salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $75,000 (CAD). The final salary offered will be determined based on various factors, including an individual's experience, knowledge, skills, and/or location.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
(Other duties may be assigned and are not limited to the following)
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Lead and complete month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions, ensuring timely invoicing, collections, and vendor payments.
  • Monitor inventory transactions, analyze standard cost changes, and investigate material or labor cost variances.
  • Accurately report sales margins, investigate discrepancies, and support cost control efforts.
  • Perform detailed account reconciliations, including accounts payable, prepaid expenses, and other key financial areas.
  • Serve as a key user of the Infor ERP system, ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
  • Assist with semi-annual financial audits, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant accounting standards.
  • Identify inefficiencies and recommend process enhancements to improve financial accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure appropriate accounting treatment and support business decision-making.
  • Generate and analyze financial reports, providing actionable insights to management.
  • Participate in ad hoc financial projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar accounting role, preferably in an industrial or business-to-business environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP/IFRS standards and financial reporting principles.
  • ERP system proficiency (experience with Infor is a plus).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, financial modeling

  • Self-motivated and proactive mindset, fostering team collaboration and engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language.
  • Legally eligible to work in Calgary, you must be at least 18 years of age
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, as you may be operating specialized equipment
  • Must be able to obtain transportation security clearance through Transport Canada
