PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The primary function of the Patient Access Supervisor is to maintain patient accounts by assisting registration clerks with accurate registration processes. The Patient Access Supervisor is responsible for training and monitoring registration staff for accurate and efficient processes. The position is a working supervisor. 

The Patient Access Supervisor reports directly to the Patient Financial Services Director, and works closely with the PFS Managers, patients, co-workers, and other departments of the hospital as well as the physician clinics.

 
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Supervises registration operations across multiple patient types and employee shifts within the Patient Access/ER Registration department.
  • Supervises the overall direction and control of the registration functions, operations, and personnel.
  • Responsible for ensuring standards for quality and productivity are met.
  • Works closely with the Patient Financial Services Department and Physician practices to coordinate activities such as insurance verification and pre-certification of admission, pre-registration, collections at or before admission, and patient billing inquiries.
  • Monitors full-time equivalents (FTEs) and completes monthly work schedules for adequate staffing levels with consideration of vacation, time of requests, etc.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, monitor volume and performance, and assess ongoing training and education needs to ensure efficient operations.
  • Provide support, coaching, and direction for staff.
  • Performance Improvement Process.
  • Monitors collections for ER and Outpatient Services.
  • Verifies patient demographic and insurance information and edits information as necessary; explains Consent for Treatment, Financial Liability and HIPPA to patient.
  • Supervises Medicare Secondary Questionnaire process.
  • Release of orders for services ordered for patients.
  • Works closely with all departments.
  • Identifies and recommends process changes to management that will improve overall performance and efficiency of the registration process.
  • Fluent in CPSI registration process.
  • Makes every effort to collect outstanding patient account balances; refers patients to a Financial Counselor when appropriate.
  • Supervises Switchboard.
  • Duties are subject to change and may include other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
DESIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Must have 3-5 years registration experience
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks
  • Must be detail oriented
  • Must be a self-starter and work with little to moderate supervision
  • Prior leadership experience is preferred, but not required
