The Martinsville-Henry County 911 Communications Center is accepting applications for the position of Emergency 911 Telecommunicator. This highly stressful position includes dispatching police, fire and rescue personnel in response to emergency situations. The successful candidate must be able to work under pressure, multi-task, receive and transmit information accurately and clearly, work independently, and have knowledge of the geographical area. Education equivalent to graduation from high school is required, in addition to pre-employment testing. Proficiency in data entry, general computer knowledge, and experience in the use of radio and telephone communications equipment, is preferred. A thorough background investigation of the finalist(s) is required. Applicants who are offered employment must successfully complete entry-level Telecommunicator training, as well as VCIN (Virginia Criminal Information Network) certification at the Piedmont Regional Criminal Justice Training Academy, and Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification. This is a fast-paced, 24/7 operation which requires qualified individual be available to work any shift, including weekends, holidays and overtime when needed. The starting annual salary is $39,465 plus excellent benefits outlined below.
