Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimate Review: Thoroughly review and validate finalized cost estimates submitted by estimators to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Bid Preparation: Prepare essential bid documentation, including bid forms, bid bonds, and performance bonds as required.
- Deadline Management: Proactively meet stringent estimate deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Proposal Letter Review: Assess finalized estimate proposal letters for precision and alignment with project requirements.
- Software Utilization: Leverage Ramar’s estimating software, FABSUITE. Training will be provided for candidates with no prior experience.
- Daily Meetings: Conduct daily estimating meetings with estimators to discuss project updates, challenges, and strategies.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Attend in-house meetings focused on estimating, fabrication production scheduling, and erection scheduling to ensure alignment across teams.
- Contract Review: Analyze contract documents, focusing on scope of work, payment terms, liquidated damages, and contract sums to safeguard company interests.
- Stakeholder Communication: Effectively communicate with customers, general contractors, and other stakeholders regarding current and potential projects.
- Bid Negotiation: Assist in the negotiation of bids with project owners to secure favorable terms.
- Labor Accuracy Review: Collaborate with owners to review shop and field labor estimates, ensuring accuracy in project planning.
- Specialty Item Procurement: Manage the buy-out process for joists, decks, and other specialty items as needed for projects.
- Documentation Management: Ensure meticulous documentation and accounting for project RFIs, change requests, and change orders to maintain project integrity.
- Schedule Coordination: Interface with necessary departments to determine work schedules and material purchase timelines.
- Barrier Identification: Collaborate with key personnel to identify potential barriers to project success and propose effective resolutions that maximize production efficiency, minimize costs, and ensure timely project delivery.
- Pre-Bid Participation: Attend pre-bid meetings and site walkthroughs to gather essential project information.
- Site Visits: Visit job sites as necessary to support project managers with field measuring, coordination, and meetings.
- Estimate Documentation: Ensure all aspects of estimates are thoroughly documented, protecting the company’s interests throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contract Document Review: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project schedules.
- Change Documentation Review: Review addenda, construction bulletins, RFPs, and other change documentation to stay informed of project updates.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience estimating in the structural steel fabrication and erection industry.
- Construction Drawings: Proficient in reviewing various construction drawings, including architectural and structural plans.
- Standards Knowledge: Familiarity with current AISC standards and AWS codes.
- Construction Processes: Strong understanding of all phases of construction and design processes.
- Deadline Management: Proven ability to manage estimates effectively while adhering to tight deadlines.
- Independence: Capable of working independently and demonstrating initiative.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills, with an emphasis on clear and concise messaging.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring high-quality outputs.
- Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational and planning skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications.

- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen with a solid understanding of the construction market in Upstate New York.
