Crane Operator
Compensation: $85,000 to $95,000 Depending on Experience

Position Overview: Ramar Steel, a family-owned business with a commitment to quality and community, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Crane Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in operating hydraulic cranes for the safe and efficient erection of structural steel components, including beams, columns, metal decking, and open web joists. The Crane Operator will collaborate closely with project teams to achieve project goals while upholding the highest standards of safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Operate Cranes: Drive and operate a variety of hydraulic mobile cranes, ensuring precision and safety during operations.
  2. Load Chart Interpretation: Accurately interpret load charts to determine lifting capabilities and ensure safe lifting practices.
  3. Site Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of project sites prior to steel erection, ensuring compliance with OSHA standards for crane staging and overall safety.
  4. Pre- and Post-Use Inspections: Perform routine inspections of cranes before and after use, ensuring they are in optimal working condition. Carry out routine maintenance as needed.
  5. Collaborate with Team: Work closely with construction managers and ground personnel to determine load specifications and develop effective lifting plans.
  6. Lifting Operations: Safely hoist, move, and position structural steel components according to project requirements.
  7. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents and maintain a safe working environment.
  8. OSHA Guidelines: Follow all OSHA safety guidelines for steel erection as per Subpart “R.”
  9. Effective Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with team members and supervisors to ensure seamless crane operations.
  10. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of crane usage, maintenance activities, and any incidents encountered during operations.
  11. Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve operational issues or malfunctions with the crane promptly and effectively.
  12. Fleet Operations: Operate our fleet of Ramar cranes safely and efficiently, adhering to best practices.
  13. Project Coordination: Coordinate crane locations, staging, swing radius, and capacity considerations with project managers.
  14. Crane and Lift Plans: Collaborate with project managers and detailers to develop comprehensive crane and lift plans.
  15. Maintenance Logs: Perform routine maintenance and keep detailed logs for all cranes.
  16. Mechanic Coordination: Work closely with mechanics to coordinate necessary repairs and maintenance on all cranes.
  17. Inspection Scheduling: Schedule and oversee annual inspections for all cranes to ensure compliance and safety.
  18. Daily Reports: Provide daily inspection reports of cranes in use, documenting any issues or concerns.
  19. Delivery Coordination: Manage the delivery of cranes and required counterweights to job sites.
  20. Permit Acquisition: Obtain all necessary permits for crane transportation and operation.
  21. Meeting Participation: Attend steel erection meetings as required for project phasing and scheduling discussions.
  22. Rigging Inspections: Conduct routine rigging inspections to ensure all equipment is safe and reliable.
  23. Faulty Rigging Management: Remove and replace faulty rigging promptly to maintain operational safety.
  24. Crane Maintenance: Regularly wash and clean cranes to ensure optimal performance and appearance.
  25. Critical Lifts Review: Review all critical lifts with project owners prior to hoisting operations.
  26. Site-Specific Planning: Develop a site-specific crane plan for each project in collaboration with project managers.
Qualifications:
  • Valid NYS crane operator license.
  • Proven experience as a Crane Operator with a strong record of safe and efficient crane operation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of crane operations, load charts, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and rigging diagrams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to meet the demands of the job.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating cranes in a construction setting.
  • Additional training or certification in crane operation is a plus.
