Position Title:  Director of Safety & Compliance
Location: Rochester, NY
Schedule: Full Time
Pay Rate: $85,000-105,000 / year

One of our clients, a growing specialty contractor in the Rochester, NY area, is looking for a Director of Safety & Compliance.  

The Director of Safety & Compliance will provide strategic leadership, direction, and oversight of the company's safety and compliance programs. Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training programs to ensure regulatory compliance and to promote a safe and healthy work environment across all company operations. Assist with day-to-day operations to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.

DUTIES
  1. Maintain knowledge of the industry as a whole and of proposed or current legislation and regulations that impact the company. This may be done by attending training classes, seminars, conferences, subscribing to pertinent newsletters, monitoring regulatory websites, and networking with other safety and compliance professionals to aid employees and the company in achieving regulatory compliance and corporate goals.
  2. Advise senior management, Project Managers and Supervisors of regulatory requirements and obligations, and develop strategies to ensure compliance.
  3. Oversee and support the Safety Coordinator and Compliance Manager in executing their responsibilities and achieving departmental objectives.
  4. Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive safety and compliance programs.
  5. Conduct regular audits and inspections of job sites to identify potential safety and compliance risks. Recommend and enforce corrective actions.
  6. Manage the investigation of accidents, injuries, and incidents of non-compliance. Develop strategies to prevent reoccurrence and improve overall safety performance.
  7. Lead the Safety Committee and conduct trending analysis on all incidents, injuries, and near misses.
  8. Develop and maintain a robust safety training program to ensure all staff are routinely trained and comply with industry standards.
  9. Prepare and present detailed reports on safety and compliance performance to senior management, including metrics, trends, and areas for improvement.
  10. Foster a culture of safety and compliance throughout the organization by promoting awareness, engagement, and accountability at all levels.
  11. Develop and maintain relationships with regulatory agencies, industry organizations, and safety professionals to stay informed of best practices and regulatory changes.
  12. Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of all safety and compliance records, including OSHA logs, training records, and inspection reports.
  13. Maintain NYS Code Rule 60 program including annual report and re-certification.
  14. Provide subject matter expertise in the area of regulatory compliance to assist Project Managers and Supervisors.
  15. Assist Project Managers with solving complex problems and completing projects within codes and regulations.
  16. Assist operations as needed to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  17. Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

TECHNOLOGY / EQUIPMENT / TOOLS
This position requires an advanced skill level in the following: 
- Computer, display sharing technology
- MS Office:  Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint 
- PPE including respirators
- Fall protection devices & equipment
- Safety management software

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The working environment is frequently favorable with half the work performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available. May be briefly exposed to fumes or airborne particles or to extreme heat or cold conditions on a daily or weekly basis. May also be exposed to the following conditions up to one or two times per month:
  • Work near moving mechanical parts
  • Work in high, precarious places
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Risk of electrical shock
  • Risk of radiation
  • Loud noise level
  • Very loud noise level

QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience Requirements Minimum of seven years of experience in safety management and regulatory compliance, with at least three years in a leadership role.
