PAINTER/LOADER/HEAVY MATERIAL HANDLER

Basic Function:
 This position is responsible is to support the structural steel fabrication shop's operations by performing tasks that involve painting steel components, safely loading and unloading materials, and handling heavy materials using appropriate equipment. This role ensures that steel parts are properly prepared and coated, materials are efficiently moved and organized, and safety standards are upheld throughout the process. The position plays a crucial role in maintaining workflow efficiency, quality of finished products, and
overall shop safety.
Reports To: Shop Supervisor
Compensation: $22-25/hour to start with annual reviews/increases

Duties
  • Prep and paint structural steel
  • Operate forklift as needed
  • Perform rigging work to move materials as requires
  • Load and unload steel from trucks
  • Perform other duties as required to support the fabrication shop

Skills
  • Experience painting and using paint sprayers to apply paint
  • Must have experience with overhead crane
  • Experience using and operating a forklift is required
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Must be flexible to work any schedule needed including overtime and Saturdays as needed
  • Basic math skills are required

Physical requirements
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle materials.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots required.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).
  • Must be able to tolerate various weather conditions when loading and unloading materials.
  • Must be able to stand on feet for up to 10 hours
Other Requirements
  • A valid NYS Driver's License is required
