Job Title: Backflow Technician
Location: Rochester, NY

Compensation: $25-40/hour
This position reports directly to the Vice President and is responsible for performing work functions associated with backflow assembly/cross connection device installation, inspections, maintenance, repair, record keeping, calibrations, and cross connection control within the City of Rochester and Monroe County water distribution systems.
Light service job with driving, walking, occasional digging and wrenching. Certifications and other training can be made available prior to starting the job for the right individual. EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift <50lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time. Employees are required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus. Employees will occasionally be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift >50lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequent local travel and occasional regional and non-regional travel is required. Employees will at times be required to work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures and be exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes and odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards frequently. Employees could occasionally be exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven and slippery surfaces. Employees will consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES:
- HS Diploma or equivalent preferred. State and local certification required based on location.
- Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester License required, or has had license previously.
- Valid New York Drivers License with acceptable driving record.
- 1-2 years experience inspecting, testing, maintaining and servicing cross connection/backflow assemblies required (rare exceptions may apply), three or more years’ experience preferred. Must be able to mostly work alone but also as part of a team. Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, customer service skills, decision making skills, ability to multitask, ability to make and meet project schedules, ability to plan and organize, troubleshooting skills, and the ability to train others is required.
- Must have the ability to read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.
- Ability to operate a computer, tablet and/or smartphone required. Any experience with Simpro, Microsoft Office and Quickbooks is beneficial.
- Must be able to comply with Air-Dee’s Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement.
- Perform inspections on Cross Connection/Backflow Assemblies per state and local jurisdictional requirements.
- Perform repairs on Cross Connection/Back Assemblies as required and accepted by state and local jurisdictional requirements.
- Record and report all inspection data and any deficiencies found to Monroe County Water Authority / City of Rochester.
- Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
- Proper use and operation of tools required to complete the inspection.
- Plan, coordinate, and schedule complete inspections in a timely manner.
- Ensure that all assigned tools are safeguarded and maintained.
- Maintain all records for each backflow prevention assembly to assure calibration as performed in accordance with yearly requirements pertaining to cross connection control.
- Maintain service vehicles and equipment used for any and all jobs.
- May cross-train in one or more areas of department functions.
- Perform other job duties as required or assigned.
- Enter data into the computer based backflow software to record backflow test results and create reports as needed.
- Develops and maintains an up-to-date prospect list from contract sales, Inspection Department records and other sources.

- Works and coordinates with the office to send out billing and reminders.
- Demonstrates respect for company and customers by dressing professionally and appropriately.
- Clocks in and out daily.
- Arrives punctually to job sites and office appointments.
- Strives to complete each assigned task at scheduled date/time.
- Contact the office and/or customer immediately if unable to complete a job at scheduled date/time.
- Responds proactively to job hurdles/complications by communicating with the office and/or customer.
- Performs testing and/or repairs accurately and thoroughly.
- Records test results and device information legibly, accurately, and thoroughly.
- Documents and reports unusual or important site conditions to the office to prevent future confusion.
- Submits test results and device information to the office by the end of business day.
- Attempts to deliver invoice to customer in person (unless otherwise directed).
- Treats customers respectfully and professionally at all times.
- Delivers all on-site payments to the office by the end of the business day.
- Reports any incidents that may have occurred to office.
- Communicate with internal and external customers concerning backflow issues and questions.
- Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.
- Prospecting for new customers by cold calling and visiting client sites.
- Utilizes company vehicles only for company assignments.
- Performs general maintenance and cleaning of company vehicles.
- Notifies the office promptly when unable to work due to emergency or illness.
- Demonstrates willingness to assist with additional work-related tasks such as picking up company mail, ordering supplies, repairing office fixtures, etc.
- Submits receipts for all reimbursable expenses (such as work-related parking costs, supplies, etc.).
- Completes additional training and/or certification renewal when necessary.
- Cooperates with coworkers and owner to complete team projects.
