Position Summary
The Longwood TMA (formerly CommuteWorks) was established in 1989 and is one of the country’s first Transportation Management Associations (TMA). Longwood Collective is looking for a Transportation Planner/ TDM Program Manager to be the Program Manager of the TMA.

The position develops, manages, and markets transportation demand management (TDM) programs to increase walking, biking, carpooling, transit usage, and other environmentally sustainable modes. The role serves as Longwood Collective’s TDM lead through participation in conferences, events, professional organizations, and research. In addition, the role supports the Director of Transportation Planning working on Longwood transportation priorities. This may include data gathering, data analysis, field observations, research, support with preparing PowerPoint presentations, and other duties as directed by the Director of Transportation Planning.

This position will lead the next chapter in the TMA’s existence by evaluating existing commuter incentive programs, supporting a hybrid workforce, and looking for ways to collaborate with member institutions and external partners.  External partners include MassCommute, MBTA, and other Boston area TMAs. 

This position will also identify opportunities and develop processes and programs to improve the internal operations of the Longwood TMA and its commute programs.

TMA/TDM Responsibilities
This role’s primary responsibility is the day-to-day management of the Longwood TMA, including:
  • Provide services, such as commuting assistance, management of TDM programs, and responding to inquiries regarding the Longwood TMA incentive programs.
  • Coordinate with the Longwood Collective Communications team for messaging and campaigns on Longwood TMA social media and newsletters, including (but not limited to) Twitter, Facebook, the Longwood TMA website, Longwood Happenings, and the Longwood TMA Newsletter. 
  • Gather feedback on MBTA service and share it with MBTA service planners and the customer service team. 
  • Participate in employee orientations, benefits fairs, and city and state events like the MassCommute Bicycle Challenge.
  • Collaborate with third-party vendors, such as Zipcar, Lyft and RideAmigos.
  • Serve as Employee Transportation Advisor (ETA) to Longwood employees.
  • Manage the Longwood TMA budget and adhere to timeline and budgetary constraints.
  • Represent Longwood TMA/Longwood Collective on external local and national organizations, such as the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT) national and local chapters and MassCommute, the Massachusetts Coalition of TMAs.
  • Assist members in preparing their MA DEP Rideshare and other compliance reporting.
  • Work with the Director of Transportation Planning and Vice President to assess the effectiveness of TDM programs and develop new or improved programs.
TMA Planning Responsibilities
Under the guidance of the Director of Transportation Planning, this role will also assist in tasks connected to Longwood transportation priorities related to TDM, such as:
  • Design and conduct transportation surveys, field observations, and studies to identify transportation challenges impacting LMA travelers and visitors.
  • Technical transportation analysis of projects within and around the LMA.
  • Contribute to project ideas and solutions to LMA transportation challenges.
  • Work on various multimodal initiatives related to cycling, walking, micro-mobility, public transport, curb management, EVs, TNCs, and emerging modes such as AVs.
  • Draft technical memos and reports as needed.
  • Substitute for Director of Transportation Planning in times of absence and at requested meetings.
  • Special projects such as multimodal design and ADA accessibility. 

Required Qualifications (unless otherwise noted)
  • A degree in urban planning, transportation planning, geography, public administration, or a related field.
  • Four years of demonstrated work experience in the TDM and transportation field or a related field, preferably with two years of project management. Equivalent experience and responsibility will also be considered.  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge and experience using social media platforms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present clear, concise, and timely communications through multiple methods.
  • Experience in public speaking or a desire to learn.
  • Professional interpersonal style: ability to interact and work with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks to completion and resolve issues in a fast-paced environment while ensuring strong attention to detail.
  • Exhibit a ‘can-do’ attitude, willingness to learn, and flexible work style approach. Patience and flexibility to meet the challenges of constantly changing demands.
