The Role:
Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the Field Geotechnical Engineer position is primarily responsible for executing geotechnical functions such as:
- ground support/control audits and assessment
- response and investigation to ground control concerns/issues
- rock mass characterization and assessment
- ground support pull tests
- geotechnical sample collection and testing
- assist in implementation of new ground support methods
- support installation and analysis of microseismic and other monitoring systems
- support of drill and blast design, ROFO/planning projects, etc.
- support/manage geotechnical or rehabilitation projects at all sites.
- support tasks/responsibilities detailed in the Nyrstar Geotechnical Framework are adhered to
Required Qualifications:
- Ability/willingness to work independently at all levels of the business, and in close collaboration with all groups at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
- Understanding of underground mining methods, comfort in underground mining environment
- 1-3 years of mining/geology/civil engineering industry experience
- Understanding of industry standard rock mass characterization systems (RMR, Q, GSI, MRMR) and empirical techniques (Hoek-Brown Equations, Stability Graph Method, Laubscher Caving Method, etc.)
- Bachelor’s degree in geological engineering, geology, civil engineering, or similar discipline
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands on, industry experience with additional rock mass characterization, ground support system testing/understanding
- Master’s Degree in geological engineering, geology, civil engineering, or similar discipline.
- Experience with microseismic systems and analysis of microseismic data
- Practical, underground mining experience utilizing ground support equipment and
