THE ROLE
The Mining Engineer Intern reports to the Planning Superintendent and the primary role is to assist the Mine Technical Services team with operational and engineering requirements. This roles is for students finishing their 2nd or 3rd year of studies in a Mining Engineering program and is designed to give them exposure to the Underground environment as well as engineering tasks.

 
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety, Health, Environment and Community
  • Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times
  • Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed CHESS goals in support of the department, site and company standards
  • Participate in daily crew safety meetings
  • Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
Operations
  • Participate in daily activities with the Engineering team, including data compilation, validation, and preparation of daily production reports.
  • Conduct regular underground surveys of development headings; install laser and survey stations.
  • Create and update various CAD drawings, primarily related to lateral development, ground support, and construction.
  • Perform ventilation surveys and assist in preparing related reports.
  • Support the short-term planning lead with planning-related tasks.
  • Contribute to special projects aligned with the intern’s skills and interests.
People and Organization
  • Liaise with other members of the operational and technical team.
  • Support for and adherence to the Nyrstar Values and Behavior expectations

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Currently Enrolled in a Mining Engineering Program in either your 2nd or 3rd year.
  • Current Driver's License.
  • Computer literacy Microsoft Office (extensive excel skills is a requirement).
  • Demonstrate ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all engineering tasks.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.
