THE ROLE
The purpose of this role is to support the engineering department for 2-3 month rotation through all departments, spending 2-3 weeks (or longer) in various aspects of the business. This role will be a summer internship over 1 summer.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Safety, Health, Environment and Community
· Promote and demonstrate safe behavior at all times, comply with the site’s standards and procedures in SHEC
· Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed SHEC goals in support of the department, site and company standards
· Demonstrates leadership in SHEC through personal behaviors and conversations, and report all SHEC incidents and participate in SHEC initiatives
· Take responsibility for the safety of all personnel, including yourself, at Nyrstar Tennessee Mines
· Develops plans and schedules in consideration of Statutory requirements
Mine Engineering
· Perform Auxiliary vent Studies
· Perform primary vent studies
· Infrastructure mapping – discharge, primary water, electrical, etc.
· Train with STPs (training as back-up and future STPs)
· Assist STPs, Senior, and Chief Engineer on projects as assigned
· Conduct time studies on equipment
· Performance evaluation (e.g. dispatch/equipment data and looking at trends, opportunities, etc.)
· Design and drafting as needed
· Complete Software training (AutoCAD, Deswik, Minesight, etc.)
· Business Improvement Initiatives
· Assisting in automation and technology improvements
People and Organization
· Support the team to build requisite structure, Work with the team to ensure the long-term viability of the team, Support team members in their personal development.
· Proactively seeks to understand the roles and the needs of other team members, work collaboratively with mine production and geology departments and assist other functional areas to achieve their objectives
· Actively participate in team discussions and decisions
· Ensure a cost-conscious culture is practiced by team members
· Provide specialist technical advice to the team in areas of competence
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
· Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program related to Mine Engineering
