SUMMARY OF POSITION
Working under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Exhibition Installation. The On-Call Art Handler will conduct general art handling and installing activities.  This is an on-call position that may only work during periods of exhibition installation and de-installation.


SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • At least 2 years as an Art Handler in an art gallery or museum setting.
  • Knowledge of art materials, art installing techniques, best museum standards/practices, and experience in the proper handling of art objects.
  • Organized and careful work habits.
  • Experience working as a team member with proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools, installation hardware, archival materials, and packing/crating techniques.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • General art handling, preparation and installing activities.
  • Wrapping, packing and crating, receiving and releasing artworks.
  •  Maintain exhibition galleries and back of house work areas.
WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:
  • Must be able to kneel, crouch, or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.

EDUCATION:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • B.A, preferred or equivalent experience with fine arts or art history background.

POSITION TYPEOn-Call, Non-Exempt.  This position covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 30, IUOE.

SALARY RANGE:  $34.10-$40.91 per hour
