Working independently, under the supervision of Security Management Team, the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, visitors and the protection of Guggenheim property and artwork.

SALARY RANGE: $22.00 per hour plus differential

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Working independently, under the supervision of Security Management Team, the Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety of employees, visitors and the protection of Guggenheim property and artwork.
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 1–2 years of security related experience, preferably in a customer service-oriented environment.
- Self-motivated team player with concise communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with diverse implementation team is essential.
- Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to be proactive, use independent judgment and initiative.
- Must be able to hold and operate a fire extinguisher, after proper fire guard training.
- Must be able to perform building evacuations swiftly and in accordance with museum's fire safety plan. Mandatory drills will be conducted throughout the year.
- Ability to interact professionally and respectably with all levels of staff and visitors while also enforcing Museum policies in a courteous manner.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Management of employee/guest entrance; receive incoming museum guests and contractors and connect them with their staff contact. Respond to incoming phone, radio and email communications.
- Operate fire command center; respond to alarms, disable fire points, investigate alarms per FLSD instructions.
- Operate the access control system (computer based); monitor and provide door access, monitor cameras.
- Complete building rounds and patrols.
- Inspect all bags of visitors and staff entering and leaving the museum.
- Inform visitors and staff of museum policies and enforce them appropriately.
- Monitor and maintain the flow of visitors in all galleries.
- Report and document any incident related to visitors, staff, the building or artwork.
- Protect the people, building and art from harm; Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, and potential problems.
- Assist with emergency evacuations and perform building evacuation supervisor and fireguard duties as trained.
- Assist with operations at the main door including setting up of stanchions and museum signage for public hours.
WORK DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including multiple nights and/or weekends.
- Must be able to work at least 2-4 overnights.
- Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
- Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.
- Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- Ability to remain alert at all times and to stand for multiple hours.
- Ability to move stanchions, coat racks and bins.
EDUCATIONAL/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Qualify for NYS Security Guard License and FDNY Fire Guard Certificate of Fitness; Museum can provide training and resources to obtain both licenses
