Technically proficient in tasks, work processes, and equipment operation. 1st Class Structural Fitter is considered a position for structural fabrication on an advanced or expert level for capabilities to perform structural marine, offshore, and vessel / tank shell repair.
Interpretation of project and fabrication drawings for proper dimensional tolerances in standard and metric units of measurement.
Accountable for completion of daily work assignments including the completion and signatures for work completion and quality.
Creates a working environment compliant with quality, safety, environmental, and health regulations and policies.
Utilizes approved rigging equipment for plates and equipment for safe lifting and movement of materials to prevent dropping and usage of tag lines.
Understand directions and follow instructions from the attending supervisor. Reviews personal workmanship of fitting and fabrication of materials for accuracy and dimensions.
Understanding of structural installation of marine vessels, offshore platforms and structures consisting of alignment, field welded connections, accuracy, and final product. Always using consideration of adjacent structure to see that it is properly supported when areas are repaired to prevent collapse.
Performs safe and effective use of craft related tools and equipment, including but not limited to: millers, sanders, grinders, burr motors, band saws, skill saws, saws all, come along and chain falls etc.
Familiar with flame cutting equipment and capabilities of piercing holes, accuracy of torches kerfs, different fuel types, and washing/gouging.
Familiar with set up and use of Carbon Arc Gouging (CAC) equipment / electrodes / safety for gouging and fitment / repair scenarios.
Performs layout of plates, materials and weldments using engineering sketches, drawings, and diagrams with minimal supervision. If a problem arises it is brought to the attention of the supervisor to resolve or request fabrication information.
Performs ship fitting functions such as but not limited to fit up of structure, cutting, sniping, sanding, grinding, prepping, tacking and the fit up of plates with minimum supervision. Ability to tack plate dogs, wedges, and temporary plates in accordance with the approved welding procedure specification in the FCAW and SMAW weld processes.
