Summary: Designs fixtures for fabrication of metal products to produce quality part which meets customer specifications.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Examines listing of open fixtures and validates current or impending need for the fixturing.
 
Determines status of open fixtures. Determines labor, material and time necessary for completion.
 
Works in conjunction with the Welding, Machining, and Forming SMEs to produce fixtures. Tracks fixtures to completion, including quality department and customer validation with data being stored in the corresponding part folders.
 
Utilizes AutoCad, Pro-E, Creo, and Solidworks software to perform fixture design based on datum structure and GD&T of customer’s print requirements. Provides instruction for how tooling is to be used by operations.
 
Participates in the fixture maintenance program, generates detailed list of repairs needed, and participates in the completion of repairs. Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects or services.
 
Provides a response team to repair or modify tooling when we identify safety, quality, ergonomic, or productivity issues associated with the use of fixturing.
 
Provides quotations and technical support for customer accounts.
 
Maintains regular contact with and provides technical support with internal customers to ensure fixtures meet quality, safety and production objectives.
 
Visits tooling vendors to build relationships, broaden knowledge of product usage.
 
Answers inquiries regarding production capabilities, manufacturability of parts, and tooling issues.
 
Serves as a liaison between Ottenweller Purchasing, Quality team, Production/Scheduling, Building Managers and customer. Fields questions and trouble shoots issues, suggests solutions. Provides direct contact for production shop floor as needed to answer questions and resolve fixture issues.
 
Follows up and resolves contract review issues, quotations, and costing issues, including cost effectiveness, profitability, and cost-reduction. Reviews and updates engineering changes.
 
Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Qualifications

Education & Experience: Minimum of Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent in manufacturing or engineering from two-year college or technical school; one to two years related engineering or sales experience or three to five years production experience in related industry; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to read and interpret all customer blueprints, knowledgeable in geometric tolerancing and ability to use Solidworks, AutoCAD and Pro E software. Experience with Microsoft tools including Project, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
 
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively and respond professionally to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
 
Math Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of basic algebra, plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
 
Reasoning Skills: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
 
 
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Employee is occasionally required to lift up to 30#. When operating equipment employee may be required to lift up to 50#.
