To support the on-going growth of our business, we are currently seeking a highly motivated, energetic, and safety-oriented Switchman/person to join our team. Reporting to our Sortation Lead, the switchman/person is responsible for the rail cart coordination, safety, and maintenance.

This is a permanent full-time position from Monday to Friday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and some Saturday's from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM workload dependent. This is position requires working outside year-round in all weather conditions.

The starting rate for this position is $24.00 per hour.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Examine track list in to determine which cars are to be spotted, loaded and/or shipped
  • Ensure that all cars which have been spotted are properly secured by means of setting adequate braking
  • Assist with pulling loaded cars and separate cars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded
  • Check outbound cars to ensure that all cars are properly connected
  • Assist with weighing all inbound and outbound loads and empties
  • Activate train switches that regulate railway traffic in railway yards
  • Operate air/hand brakes and wheel chocks and track switches to align Rail Car Mover and cars as required for coupling, uncoupling or servicing
  • Switch cars according to instructions which indicate the location, disposition and number of cars.
  • Maintenance of rail lines including greasing and cleaning debris from lines/tracks.

Education and Experience:
  • 1 -2 years outside heavy labour experience; railway background preferred
  • Recognized certificate of Industrial Rail Operating Rules (IROR) may be required
  • Must be able to perform physical repetitive tasks
  • Work outside year-round in all weather conditions
