Rockydale Quarries Corporation, a long-standing aggregate producer in Virginia, is seeking a QA-QC Lab Tech at our Broadway quarry location.
Job Overview:
This position will back-up and support truck weighing operations and will perform lab testing on aggregate samples. You'll work in a quarry environment, assist with weighing customer and company trucks, and conduct quality control tests (e.g., moisture content, bulk density, abrasion).
JOB SUMMARY
- Perform field and laboratory testing and sampling of aggregate materials used on construction and maintenance projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to pass required exams and keep up to date all certification required by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
- Perform samples at site specific frequency, communicate results as outlined in QA/QC protocol, and upkeep sample results in an organized fashion.
- Weighmaster duties
- Maintain weighmaster certification
- Ensure truck scales, load cells, and scale house are free of debris, clutter, and in good working condition.
- Must ensure compliance with all Local, State, and Federal Laws and Regulations.
- Communicate regularly over the phone and/ or in person to customers, Rockydale employees, vendors, government agencies, and members of the community with professionalism
- Work with sales to ticket and cycle trucks quickly in the sales yard
- Perform other duties and special projects as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School or Equivalent required
- A minimum of 1 year of experience is required for this position
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have strong computer skills (Word/Excel, etc.) and be able to multitask.
- Ability to use proper tools and methods to obtain aggregate samples.
- Ability to split aggregate samples to reduce samples to proper testing size.
- Ability to obtain proper weights of samples.
- Ability to determine moisture content of Samples.
- Ability and knowledge to properly wash samples.
- Ability to perform sieve analysis on both fine and course graded aggregates.
- Ability to determine specific gravity and absorption of both fine and course aggregates.
- Ability to determine bulk density.
- Ability to determine abrasion and impact characteristics of aggregates.
- Ability to determine plasticity of fine graded aggregates.
- Ability to determine void content of fine aggregates.
- Ability to determine fractured particles in course aggregates.
- Ability to determine flat and elongated particles in course aggregates.
- Ability to record and report all test results in appropriate format.
- Ability to understand test results and how they relate to the performance of the aggregate.
- Ability to communicate and discuss results with appropriate parties.
- Must be able to interpret and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to read forms, signage, and write up basic reports on equipment.
- Must be a self-starter and have ability to perform assigned duties with little supervision.
- Must have the ability to perform preoperational checks of lab equipment.
- Must have the ability to travel and stay out of town.
- Must be able to work overtime as required.
