The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in cosmological data analysis. The postdoctoral researcher will play a major role in the analysis of CMB data from the Simons Observatory with focus on simulations, data delivery and science-readiness. The researcher will work closely with Prof. Mathew Madhavacheril and other members of the Simons Observatory collaboration. The Penn cosmology group has an active presence in a number of other cosmological surveys, including the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Rubin Observatory LSST. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and postdoctoral researchers at the University of Pennsylvania, including those working on CMB theory and analysis, CMB instrumentation and site infrastructure, and galaxy surveys like DES and LSST.
The position will offer a competitive salary and a research fund, and will nominally be for 3 years (subject to reappointment on a year-to-year basis). The anticipated start date for the position is in Fall 2025.
The Penn astrophysics group is committed to providing a welcoming and vibrant intellectual environment for all. We are particularly interested in candidates who are underrepresented minorities and in candidates who will foster a commitment to improving diversity, equity and inclusion in the department.
Applications submitted by December 15, 2024 will receive priority consideration, but applications will continue to be considered until the position is filled. Please include the following material:
a. a cover letter
b. a research statement that is no longer than 3 pages
c. names and email addresses of 3-5 references
d. a CV and list of publications
For immediate consideration, please submit all requested material directly to Mathew Madhavacheril at mathm@sas.upenn.edu. Do not apply through the SO website as this may cause significant delays. Reference letters for shortlisted candidates will be followed up subsequently.
SO institutions are equal opportunity employers and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
