A masonry intern assists skilled masons on construction sites while learning the trade through hands-on work and supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist masons in laying brick, block, and stone

  • Mix and prepare mortar and grout

  • Transport and organize materials and tools on the job site

  • Clean and prepare work areas

  • Measure and cut masonry materials

  • Help build walls, fireplaces, chimneys, patios, and other structures

  • Follow construction plans and safety guidelines

  • Maintain tools and equipment

Skills and Requirements

  • Basic understanding of construction tools

  • Ability to lift heavy materials (often 50+ lbs)

  • Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors

  • Willingness to learn masonry techniques

  • Teamwork and communication skills

  • Attention to detail and safety practices

What Interns Learn

  • Brick and stone laying techniques

  • Mortar mixing and application

  • Reading construction drawings

  • Construction site safety

  • Use of masonry tools (trowels, levels, jointers, etc.)

Work Environment

  • Construction sites (residential or commercial)

  • Outdoor conditions in varying weather

  • Physically active work with standing, lifting, and bending
