POSITION SUMMARY:
The Boiler Mechanic’s primary function is to install, maintain, repair, and modify, piping and complex heating and steam boiler systems, in multiple types of commercial and industrial applications. This is a hands-on, labor intensive job where a variety of hand or power tools, and welding equipment will be used.  Once the boiler is in working order, the mechanic will complete and record their services through various paperwork.  This position will need to work a rotating on-call schedule potentially 7 days a week, in busy times.  Will be required to work the occasional weekend and holiday. 7:00am – 4:00pm average office hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, specifications, guides, codes, and work orders.
  • Troubleshoots heating boilers, heating systems, and fuel power boilers with complex problems and extensive repairs, requiring judgment to locate malfunctions.
  • Installs, modifies, overhauls, repairs, and maintains a variety of complex heating boilers and/or heating systems, single and multiple fuel power boilers, and associated auxiliary control equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on heating, domestic, steam and hot oil boilers and auxiliary equipment.
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Uses and maintains a variety tools and equipment.
  • Regularly runs piping in welded, threaded and Propress pipe.
  • Reads blueprints, schematics, piping diagrams, and drawings of hydronic and domestic hot water systems, steam systems and hot oil systems for proper installation.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Preference will be given to candidates having formal training in welding, or having skills in SMAW Welding.
  • 3 years equivalent level of experience, preferably in a similarly fast-paced environment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates having vertical uphill and vertical downhill with a 6G qualifier.
  • NBIC or ASME pressure vessel welding experience is preferred.
  • Prior OSHA 10 Safety training is preferred.
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background and pre-employment drug test.
  • Prior experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley, and other PLC and Discreet Digital Controls is a plus.
  • Prior experience with Scotch Marine Boiler Service or Pressure Vessel Welding is a plus.
  • Must be able to lift 50+ lbs.
