Position Summary
The purpose of the Mental Health Relief Worker position is to provide staff coverage at the Tasks Unlimited Transition Lodge, Northeast Opportunity & Outreach Center (NOOC), worksite, and Fairweather Lodge programs, as needed. This position generally follows guidance and makes daily tactical decisions regarding the functioning of a worksite or program. The person in the Mental Health Relief Worker position has a high frequency of contact with external persons and/or entities. Some of these contacts may include worksite personnel, law enforcement officials, probation officers, social workers, and hospital/clinic personnel.

Essential Job Functions
Provides mental health rehab interventions to clients (45%)
- Provide mental health support services to clients
- Assist with basic living skills
- Ensure client safety
- Provide relief coverage at the Transition Lodge as needed to cover staff positions when those staff are on vacation or sick
- Montior client self-administration of medications
- Complete client case notes detailing observations and interventions
Provide trauma-responsive housing and mental health support (45%)
- Conduct initial intakes and orientation to the center, building trust and rapport with new visitors to encourage further engagement
- Collect demographic, outcome, and other relevant data required for HMIS, grant funding, and annual reports
- Complete required documentation, including but not limited to: intake forms/assessments, individual support plans, case notes, data collection for the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS)
- Provide services, such as general treatment support and service coordination for necessary mental health, housing, and other applicable services through Tasks and/or other agencies in a timely manner
- Help individuals identify and reach emergency shelter, connect with the Coordinated Entry system, and learn about and connect with other housing options including mainstream housing resources or housing for those with a mental illness or other disability
- Conduct housing consultation services for eligible NOOC visitors.
- Establish and maintain necessary professional relationships with other community resources, agencies, and service providers as directed by supervisor
Other related duties (10%)
- Facilitate grocery shopping, recreation and leisure activities that enhance clients’ social skills, knowledge of community resources, activity level, and enjoyment of leisure time
- Attend and participate in team meetings
- Attend required in-service trainings
- Perform clerical support functions, as directed
- Assist in upkeep of physical plant as directed; inform Supervisor of needed repairs to house and equipment
- Serve as van driver

Education and Experience
Required
- Be able to pass a criminal background check
- A knowledge of local area housing resources
- A knowledge of harm reduction, housing first, and other homelessness issues
- Experience meeting people where they are and providing trauma responsive care
- Valid driver’s license and insured vehicle
Preferred
- Associate’s degree in Human Services or related field and 2-3 years of experience working with the homeless, or 4 years in a related field, such as mental health, corrections, affordable housing, or chemical health
- Fluent in a non-English language or competent in the culture of an ethnic group to which 20 percent or more of the worker’s recipients belong
