Position Summary
The Peer Specialist will demonstrate dedication to promoting recovery opportunities, as well as utilize his/her own lived experience of mental health recovery to inspire recovery in the lives of peers. The individual in this position is responsible for supervising up to nine (9) residents and monitoring center activities during the assigned shift, which may include some weekday and weekend hours. The Peer Specialist also serves in relief role for fellow staff when necessary.

Essential Job Functions
Assist mental health staff (50%)
- Monitor whereabouts and activities of clients.
- Implement training methods to help clients achieve their basic living skills goals. This includes supervision, training and feedback to clients in basic living skills in the following areas: hygiene, health, housekeeping, cooking and nutrition, mobility, and money management
- Facilitate recreation and leisure activities that enhance clients' social skills, knowledge of community resources, activity level, and enjoyment of leisure time
- Implement training to help clients achieve their mental health maintenance skills goals.
- Maintain complete and accurate records on medication administration
- Provide one-to-one counseling for decision making and problem solving
- Consult with other staff regarding clinical problem-solving and crisis intervention, and actively participates in providing these services as necessary
- Communicate observations and analyses of clients; recommend training to the team
- Facilitate community meeting
- Ensure client safety
- Implement emergency procedures as appropriate, and complete necessary documentation related to emergencies and incidents
- Complete emergency drills as assigned
- Enforce house rules
- Secure building, as needed
- Attend and participate in team meetings, All-Program Staff Meetings, required in-service training, and committee assignments
- Perform clerical support functions, as directed
- Assist in upkeep of physical plant; communicate needed repairs or issues
Serve as an active team member (35%)
- Assist other team members in the delivery of needed services to clients Share information, knowledge and ideas with fellow team members; interface with team members when seeking information, support, and clarification on issues
- Communicate in a direct and constructive manner; assist in problem-solving team issues as well as client and program issues
- Follow agreed-upon interventions and/or program plans
Performs other related functions and duties (15%)
- Participate in staff meetings and program-specific meetings, as scheduled; participate in staff committees as time allows
- Maintain knowledge and understanding of current developments and issues in the mental health and vocational rehabilitation fields
