ROLE
Surerus Murphy Joint Venture is searching for a Project Scheduler to join our teams working on projects in Northern AB & BC. The Project Scheduler is field based and will play an integral role in the project team.  As part of this team, the Project Scheduler is responsible for maintaining the project schedule, recording progress and tracking change against baseline, as well proactively reporting on project schedule and productivity issues. The role includes providing reports to key project stakeholders and assisting in providing alternative scenario planning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES                                                                         
  • Manage and progress detailed resource loaded P6 project schedules.
  • Maintain and revise project schedule baselines as required.
  • Liaise with Construction Management Team and Project Controls team regarding scheduling conflicts and be able to discuss impacts of the work progress and offer options for the resolution of schedule related concerns.
  • Exercise judgement in the selection, classification, compilation and analysis of data obtained from a variety of sources.
  • Review complex project schedules for validity, logic, and verify they meet scheduling best practices.
  • Maintain the project schedule in line with Company standards and in compliance with project commitments.
  • Review, monitor and report on the progress of work and any problems that affect the planned productivity.
  • Produce and maintain resource histograms in liaison with the project management team throughout the project life cycle.
  • Evaluate actual construction progress, forecast completion dates and provide regular schedule updates with written narratives.
  • Prepare and update schedule basis narratives as required.
  • Ensure the maintenance of all other essential schedule records and reports in line with project requirements.
  • Analyse the critical path and report on conflicts with project goals and key dates.
  • Monitor key variances from agreed baseline and report on impacts and trends.
  • Identify and assess risks to project schedules.
  • Support the project management team to maintain timely and effective change management processes and procedures.
  • Conduct analysis to develop what if scenarios and schedule recovery plans.
  • Other duties as may be reasonably required to support the objectives of the organization.
  • Support Junior Project Scheduler(s).

Note: In addition to these duties, personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • Engineering or Construction Management Degree, or graduate of an applicable technical diploma program, and/or combination of education and relevant experience.

Experience
  • 3 plus years of experience in a project planning role, preferably in oil and gas pipeline construction.
  • Experience with Primavera P6 is required.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Experience with the TILOS scheduling application is considered an asset.

Skills and Knowledge
  • Intricate knowledge of Primavera P6 capabilities including but not limited to importing/exporting, global changes, critical path analysis, resource loading and monitoring, project layouts and formatting.
  • Discipline in maintaining an accurate change log, where any amendments to the Schedule are made/ required.
  • Ability to work well as part of a high functioning team in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to use judgment and critical thinking skills when faced with ambiguous situations.
  • Proven ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to offer effective solutions.
  • High level of computer literacy and proficient in MS Office, particularly MS Excel and Word.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with others and maintain strong relationships across different teams, to achieve the best results and deliver the most value.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is field based and often works within remote project locations. Travel and/or living in temporary accommodations is required.  Able to work 6 days on, 1 day off shift with 12-hour shifts for the duration of project.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The Project Scheduler reports to the Project Manager, and functionally to the Senior Project Scheduler.
