ROLE
The B-pressure Fabrication Welder is responsible for reading, planning, dimensioning, welding and repairing pipe spools in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards within a fast-paced, detail-oriented shop environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse various types of steel using processes such shielded metal arc (SMAW) and GMAW/MCAW/GTAW as required.
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, weld and install all types of pipes.
  • Use grinder to smooth out, weld, or grind parts prior to welding.
  • Layout, fit, and weld components of piping spools.
  • Position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in a jig fixture.
  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications to ensure quality welds and alignment of work performed.
  • Proficient at safely setting up and counterweighting spools in positioners as required.
  • Rig materials and equipment, utilizing overhead and jib cranes safely and effectively.
  • Participate in safety and company programs to promote a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with Fitters and Quality Control.
  • Engage in project reviews with engineering and drafting teams to align technical specifications and timelines.

Note: In addition to these duties personnel are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required in order to support the objectives of the company.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
  • B- Pressure Journeyman Welder certificate required.
  • Valid CWB certification for structural steel is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to pass a weld test.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment functional assessment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Experience
  • 3+ years experience in spooling and/or vessel welding.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Knowledge of spool fabrication welding techniques.
  • Knowledge of metals, relevant product codes, regulations and laws.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints (acorns/spool fab drawings).
  • Ability to concentrate on detailed work for long periods.
  • Good vision and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to work independently, efficiently, and safely in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based at our Spruce Grove fabrication shop. Must be able to work 5 – 6 days/week, 10 hours/day.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
The B-Pressure Fabrication Welder reports to the Shop Supervisor.
