Key Responsibilities
Concrete Placement & Finishing
- Place and finish concrete and other structural concrete elements
- Level and smooth concrete surfaces to grade and depth specifications using hand and power tools
- Apply architectural, exposed, patterned, and stamped surface treatments
- Impart specified finishes — broomed, smooth, brushed — to concrete surfaces to >1mm
- Round edges and cut joints and grooves to control cracking in accordance with the pour plan
- Operate power vibrators to properly consolidate concrete during placement
- Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surfaces per product and project specifications
- Waterproof, damp-proof, and restore concrete surfaces as required
- Install anchor bolts, steel plates, and other embedded fixtures
- Perform concrete repair, resurfacing, and section replacement on worn or damaged structures
- Fill voids and address surface defects on freshly poured concrete
- Apply dry pack grouting and epoxy materials for repairs and specialized connections
- Protect freshly poured concrete from changing weather conditions — covering, hoarding, and heating as required
- Monitor environmental conditions and adjust curing practices accordingly
- Provide quality assurance and control throughout concrete pours
- Participate in daily site safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Complete hazard assessments and daily safety documentation accurately and on time
- Follow all safety and quality control procedures without exception
- Support junior crew members and lead by example on site
- Work effectively with minimal supervision while staying aligned to foreman direction
What You Bring
Experience & Certification
- Journeyperson Concrete Finisher certification or Mason ticket is an asset.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on concrete finishing experience
- Experience placing and finishing concrete for heavy civil infrastructure work, such as LRT, bridge decks and other large concrete structures
- Experience with various flat work finishing is required
- Proven expertise in how to perfectly cure concrete and proper concrete curing methods and timing
- Proficiency with power and hand tools — plate tampers, carb saws, power screeds, walk-behind and ride-on trowel machines
- Knowledge of dry pack grouting and epoxy materials; grouting experience is a strong asset
- Physically capable of performing heavy manual labour including lifting, shovelling, and moving materials up to 50 lbs
- Able to work 10+ hour days outdoors in variable Edmonton weather conditions — heat, cold, rain, and everything in between
- Able to understand site hazard assessments and safety documentation requirements
- Fit for duty and prepared to contribute from first tool-on to last tool-off
- Have a positive attitude and genuine team-player mentality
- Strong communication and listening skills; able to take and give clear direction
