Design and Project Engineer (Calgary)
WolfTrek is a technical recruitment firm specializing in the hiring and placement of top-level engineering and construction professionals across Western Canada. We are recruiting on behalf of our client, Total Metalworks, for a Design Engineer / Project Engineer based in Calgary.
ABOUT OUR CLIENT
Total Metalworks is a Calgary-based engineering and steel fabrication company delivering industrial structures, process equipment, platforms, skids, custom machinery, and specialty fabrication projects across Western Canada.
Their engineers work directly with the fabrication team and see projects progress from concept through installation. The team believes strong engineering comes from understanding how things are actually built.
THE OPPORTUNITY
WolfTrek is seeking a Design Engineer / Project Engineer to join Total Metalworks’ growing team. This opportunity is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving practical problems, working with clients, developing designs, and collaborating closely with fabrication personnel.
The successful candidate will contribute throughout the project lifecycle, including concept development, engineering analysis, 3D modelling, detailing, fabrication support, and field reviews.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop mechanical and structural designs for industrial projects.
• Create and review 3D models and fabrication drawings.
• Perform engineering calculations and design reviews.
• Prepare technical reports and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with project managers, clients, vendors, and shop personnel.
• Participate in site visits, field measurements, and inspections.
• Support project estimating and proposal development.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Registered P.Eng. or EIT eligible for registration with APEGA.
• Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
• Excellent communication and practical problem-solving skills.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
• Steel fabrication and welding.
• CSA S16 and National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) design.
• Industrial facilities and equipment.
• Wastewater treatment equipment.
• Rotary kilns.
• Plastic recycling systems.
• Bioreactors.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
