WHC LLC (A Surerus Murphy Company) (WHC), is seeking to recruit a Substation Construction Manager. The Substation Construction Manager is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and execution of substation construction projects. This role ensures that work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. The Construction Manager provides leadership to site teams, maintains strong client relationships, and drives WHC’s commitment to Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment (HSQE) excellence.

The Substation Construction Manager is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and execution of substation construction projects. This role ensures that work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with all project specifications, standards, and regulatory requirements. The Construction Manager provides leadership to site teams, maintains strong client relationships, and drives WHC’s commitment to Health, Safety, Quality, and Environment (HSQE) excellence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Execution & Oversight
- Lead the on-site construction management of all substation projects, including civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical scopes.
- Oversee daily operations to ensure adherence to project schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to align construction execution with project requirements.
- Supervise, mentor, and direct field staff, subcontractors, and craft labor across multiple substations. Including substations being self-performed and sub-contracted.
- Establish clear performance expectations and foster a culture of safety and accountability.
- Facilitate daily and weekly coordination meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Ensure strict compliance with WHC and client safety standards, regulatory codes, and industry’s best practices.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks to reinforce safety culture.
- Address and resolve safety or environmental issues in a timely manner.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, inspectors, and third-party representatives.
- Provide progress updates, manage client expectations, and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Work with Project Managers to manage scope changes, RFIs, and technical challenges.
- Oversee inspections, testing, and commissioning activities to ensure quality and compliance with design specifications.
- Maintain accurate project records, reports, and documentation of work performed.
- Support project closeout activities including punch list completion and turnover packages.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in substation or power construction management.
- Strong technical knowledge of substation systems (HV/MV/LV), civil works, grounding, control buildings, and protection systems.
- Proven track record of delivering complex power projects safely, on time, and on budget.
- Familiarity with industry codes and standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC, OSHA).
- Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with project management software, scheduling tools, and MS Office Suite.
