Jackson & Campbell, P.C., a mid-sized Washington DC law firm is seeking a highly organized, detail oriented Billing Specialist with 3 to 7 years of prior billing experience.  Previous experience in a professional services billing environment is required (law firm experience preferred).  Prior experience with electronic billing software and various e-Billing platforms is required. This individual must be highly motivated, pro-active, and able to work independently.

Under the direction of the Firm Administrator and the Senior Billing Coordinator, the Billing Specialist provides full-cycle billing support for multiple practice groups, and is responsible for, but not limited to, monthly/quarterly invoicing, electronic billing, opening new client/matters, client/matter maintenance, limited financial reporting, assistance with client collections, and responding to client/attorney requests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Billing Specialist has a broad range of duties and responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Assists with printing proformas and distributes to attorneys for review/approval.
  • Reviews, edits, prints, mails, and copies bills; maintains client billing files (hard copy and electronic formats).
  • Finalizes and prepares monthly and quarterly invoices including alternative fee arrangements and e-billing.
  • E-bills clients using various third-party systems.
  • Reviews trust account ledger for billing attorney.
  • Retrieves back-ups for all invoices as needed.
  • Obtains missing matter or budget information as required for e-billing from clients and attorneys.
  • Opens new clients/matters.
  • Reviews new matter forms from select practice groups.
  • Distributes all new client forms internally.
  • Responds to client and attorney inquiries regarding outstanding bills or WIP.
  • Supports collections effort by maintaining internal tracking system; follows up with clients as directed by attorneys or established protocol.
  • Ensure compliance with acceptable accounting standards and practices as well as required client billing guidelines.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as business needs dictate.
     
Education and Qualification Requirements
  • Undergraduate Degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Minimum three to seven years prior billing experience required; law-firm experience preferred.
     
Required Skills and Knowledge
  • Prior working experience with law firm specific billing software or similar applications.
  • Advanced technical skills using Microsoft Office Suite 365, specifically Excel.
  • Polished professional with excellent interpersonal and communications skills to interact with attorneys, staff, firm clients, and vendors.
  • Advanced experience with various e-billing platforms.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills; attention to detail essential.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

  • After training and orientation, this position will be hybrid-remote with three days per week onsite required.
Salary Range:
$50,000 - $70,000 based on experience and credentials, however, the higher end of the salary range is reserved for exceptional circumstances.
