Overview:

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Senior Buyer to be responsible for selecting and purchasing quality products for our manufacturing business. Your responsibilities will include processing purchase orders, negotiating with suppliers, tracking orders, creating and maintaining an inventory, quality assurance and liaising with inventory, production, design, engineering teams and management. The buyer will work with staff across departments to forecast the needs of the business and make purchase decisions based on demand.

The Senior Buyer should be analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills to secure the best prices according to budget. Knowledge of sales and marketing principles is advantageous. The ideal candidate is one who is able to build streamlined purchasing processes for a business that is rapidly scaling in North America. 

Responsibilities:

  • Research, select and purchase quality parts, products and materials.
  • Build relationships with suppliers and negotiate with them for the best pricing.
  • Process requisitions and update management on status of orders.
  • Update inventory and ensure that stock levels are kept at appropriate levels.
  • Create live trackers to support cross collaboration with Production, Project Management, Accounting and Inventory on lead time, status, quantity, etc (please note, we currently do not have an ERP in place - this candidate may support the ERP implementation process).
  • Assist to arrange transport of goods and track orders to ensure timely delivery.
  • Analyze market trends and apply this knowledge to make insightful buying decisions.
  • Coordinate with inventory team, management, and stockroom as required.
  • Experience with implementing Systems, and an ERP is preferred.
  • Assess quality of stock received and escalate any discrepancies to suppliers and management.
  • Must be highly skilled at Excel, creating pivot tables, PowerBI dashboards, and have an eye for attention to detail, and data analysis.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Critical thinking and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent computer skills (Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Experience using an Inventory Management System.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in purchasing and procurement for US & CAN preferred.
  • Ideally at least 2 years, should be progressive experience as a Senior Purchaser or similar background in supply chain and logistics, for a manufacturing setting.
  • ERP experience is an asset - preferably with NetSuite.
  • Electrical, electronic and mechanical knowledge is an asset.
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field, or Engineer related would be ideal
  • Additional credential in supply chain and logistics is required. 
  • Relevant experience preferred.

The expected annual salary range for this position is $70,000 to $90,000, with final compensation determined based on skills, qualifications, and relevant experience. We are committed to pay equity and to offering compensation that is fair, transparent, and competitive.
