Director of Human Resources
Job Summary:
Reports directly to the President of Assisted Transportation (ATS) and on a dotted line basis to the American Student Transportation Partners (ASTP) Chief People Officer. The Director of Human Resources will serve as a key member of the Assisted senior management team. The Director of Human Resources will advise and align the senior management team on people strategies and programs that support the Assisted business priorities and company cultural pillars while minimizing risk to the enterprise.
The Director of Human Resources will design, plan, and implement new systems for Recruiting, Retention, Engagement and be locally responsible and accountable for ensuring execution of existing systems and programs in these areas.
The Director of Human Resources will lead employee engagement and advocacy efforts within the Assisted organization and collaborate with senior leaders, operational line leadership teams and front-line employees to ensure that Assisted Transportation’s culture reflects the Company’s mission, vision and values.
The Director of Human Resources will work with the senior management team and key operational leaders to identify and ensure company and governmental human resources related compliance requirements are consistently and fully met.
A successful Director of Human Resources at Assisted will be humble, have empathy and high levels of emotional intelligence and be focused on collaborative work in a team environment. Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manages and ensures crisp execution of employee benefits and all employee-related information and documentation processes using the Company’s integrated systems. Acts as system owner and Subject Matter Expert for Assisted Transportation.
- Develops, implements, and manages HR policies and procedures that are consistent with employment laws and best practices.
- Provides input and ideas for Assisted talent acquisition programs and interfaces/coordinates with the President to ensure effective, efficient and scalable recruitment and hiring efforts.
- Develops and manages the recruitment and hiring priorities and workstreams.
- Engages with operational leaders and recruiting staff to enhance and optimize recruiting, hiring, on-boarding, evaluation, discipline, termination practices and processes.
- Directly engages in the field for investigation, understanding and facilitating resolution of employee and labor relations to ensure high levels of employee engagement, promote diversity, equity and inclusion and minimize potential of labor organizing / action.
- Fosters and facilitates a culture of empowerment in the field and continuous improvement through feedback and coaching.
- Facilitates and supports annual operational talent reviews, succession planning and employee development / pipeline evaluation that supports growth and scaling of the business.
- Monitors and reports metrics and KPIs relevant to talent acquisition, employee relations and employee engagement.
- Works with operational leaders to design, implement and track employee training and development programs and development plans.
- In cooperation with the Assisted operational leaders and safety/training staff, advocates for and assists in building a strong safety culture with proactive risk identification and direct employee engagement.
- Embraces technology and innovation to enhance employee engagement and experience, increase leader effectiveness and minimize non-value-added work in support of routine people related documentation and compliance requirements.
- Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations, participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
- A strong role model for Assisted leaders and employees, cultivating a culture in which employee engagement, safety, operational excellence, continuous improvement/development and diversity, equity and inclusion are demonstrated.
- Responsible for hiring and developing staff while creating an engaging and supportive environment for their growth and retention.
- Responsible for hiring, developing and leading a team of HR Business Partners while creating an engaging and supportive environment for their growth and retention.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business management or similar field preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of relevant human resources experience.
- Minimum 3 years of experience leading a team and successfully developing people and talent.
- Preferred experience working in organizations with large, geographically dispersed field operations supporting non-exempt (hourly) employee populations and front-line leaders.
- Experience in the development, execution and continuous improvement of Human Resources strategy.
- Experience working in a fast-growth environment and supporting.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with actively using and managing HR software systems including Applicant Tracking, HRIS, Payroll and other related systems. Experience and proficiency with Paycom software and systems would be a plus.
- Technology proficient, including Microsoft Office suite and other common business software applications.
- Proficiency with using and analyzing data and presenting information in a clear and concise format.

- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
