Education:  High school graduate or possession of a GED Certificate.  Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Licensure/Certification:  None required.  CPR certification preferred; required within 3 months of hire. 
Experience:  Two years of experience in a related field in the last 3-5 years preferred (medical secretary or receptionist duties).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Greet and check in patients.  Admissions process consists of obtaining demographic and insurance information in computer software program.
  2. Answer phones, direct calls, take messages when applicable.
  3. Escort families/friends to other areas of the hospital. 
  4. Pre-register and assemble paperwork for patient charts.
  5. Assemble charts.
  6. Sort and distribute incoming mail and faxes.
  7. Ability to use computer programs related to the department job functions.
  8. Order and organize supplies as needed. 
  9. Assist with special projects.
  10. Present professional, friendly demeanor and appearance at all times. 
  11. Maintain consistent attendance.
  12. Contribute to a positive work environment. 
  13. Comply with Federal and State laws and regulations, and BHSH’s compliance program, policies and procedures.
  14. Participate in staff meetings and staff education/development.
  15. Assist other departments as needed.
  16. Assist in training and teaching personnel as needed.
  17. Flexibility in hours and working area.
  18. Other duties as assigned.
  19. Work with a team to reach departmental and organizational goals. 
  20. Possess exceptional customer service skills and communication skills.
