Assistant Technical Director
Engineer immersive experiences. Improve everything.

About Us:

Culton Companies, Inc. partners with clients to transform interpretive plans into engaging, inclusive, and memorable 3D environments—from museums and traveling exhibits to interactive displays. We plan, design, build, and install under one roof, ensuring high-quality outcomes, fewer surprises, and greater quality. Whether it’s architectural programming, interpretive frameworks, A/V integration, or sensorial effects, our multidisciplinary team covers every stage to bring stories to life.

We’re seeking a driven, technically adept Assistant Technical Director who thrives on variety, pressure, and problem-solving. If you love figuring things out on the fly, juggling multiple systems at once, and finding better ways to get things done, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.

In this role, you’ll support the planning, coordination, and execution of complex AV systems for immersive experiences, exhibits, and live environments. You’ll work alongside senior technical leadership, getting your hands dirty while helping shape the technical backbone of globally visible projects.

This is not a job for someone who wants routine or prefers to be told what to do. It’s for someone who moves fast, thinks logically, solves problems independently, and is ready to grow.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design & Documentation: Assist with system layouts, wiring diagrams, CAD drawings, and tech documentation.
  • On-Site Execution: Set up gear, run cable, test systems, and troubleshoot live in the field.
  • Coordination: Work directly with vendors, fabricators, and PMs to keep technical execution aligned and on time.
  • Logistics & Tracking: Maintain inventory, change logs, and equipment shipments.
  • Collaboration: Bridge the gap between technical and project management teams to keep work moving forward.

What You Bring:

  • 2–4 years of experience in technical production, AV integration, or themed/experiential environments.
  • Working knowledge of AV systems: projection, dvLED, lighting, audio, control, or automation.
  • Experience with CAD or Illustrator and comfort with on-site tech setup and troubleshooting.
  • Strong organizational skills, clear communication, and a bias for action.

Bonus if you have:

  • Experience with media servers, show control systems, or interactive technologies (TouchDesigner, CueServer, ArtNet, DMX, Dante).
  • A desire to grow into a Senior Technical Director role.

You Might Be a Fit If You...

  • Like to move fast, solve problems, and then move on to the next challenge.
  • Prefer hands-on work and independent thinking over endless meetings.
  • Are comfortable juggling multiple demands in high-pressure, high-visibility situations.
  • Can be flexible under stress—but prefer to avoid prolonged chaos.
  • Value logic over drama, but can read the room when needed.
  • Constantly look for better ways to do things—and sometimes can’t help yourself.
  • Need variety, autonomy, and purpose in your work.

What We Offer:

  • A chance to work on some of the most innovative and visible projects in the industry.
  • Mentorship from industry leaders in creative tech and live experience.
  • A collaborative, no-nonsense culture that values both creativity and execution.
  • Competitive salary, strong benefits, and real opportunities for growth.

This is more than a stepping stone — it's a launchpad.
If you’re ready to do the best technical work of your life, we’d love to meet you.
