Position Summary
The School-Age Teacher is responsible for the daily instruction and support of children in Family Connections’ Kindergarten-5th Grade Programs, supervising the completion of academic assignments and enrichment activities in Homework Club (HWC) and Summer Academic Enrichment (SAE). HWC is a licensed afterschool program that provides homework support and enrichment activities, and SAE is an 8-week, full-day supplemental education program.
In the mornings, this position acts as a floater in Family Connections Centers’ (FCC) various educational programs at both centers, filling in for staff absences and open positions, providing staff relief, and supporting agency events including food distributions, family fun events, and open houses.
This position supports the training, coaching, and scheduling of substitute teachers, volunteers, and community partners. The Teacher maintains current knowledge of the field and may be required to attend and provide agency in-service training. This position works within agency and funder standards.

This position will be based out of our Portola center. This job operates in a professional classroom and office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and on occasion may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist, coordinate, and implement the Homework Club and Summer Academic Enrichment programs, working closely with co-teachers to create age and culturally appropriate curriculum for children in kindergarten through 5th grades
- Maintain visual and auditory supervision of children to ensure their safety in the classroom, at the play-yard, and on field trips
- Support implementation of enrichment activities for children including literacy, math, science, and art/craft projects
- Maintain ongoing positive and supportive communication with parents and guardians of children in the programs, community partners, and Family Connections staff
- Conduct ongoing evaluation, documentation, and observation of children to create individualized portfolios and information sharing with parents/caregivers, and for referrals
- Be responsible for assigned documentation needs including children's forms, progress and incident reports, participant surveys, and attendance sheets; follow mandatory reporting requirements for suspicion of child abuse or neglect
- Assist with inventory and organization of materials and supplies
- Assist with administrative duties including entering data into CMS, Salesforce, SharePoint, funder databases, and physical files
- Support caregivers with the intake process, send professional correspondences, and support with outreach efforts with written and verbal translation
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-service training, professional development workshops, case consultation meetings with the mental health consultant, meetings with Family Connections’ HR consultant, and relevant training and workshops as needed
- Substitute and provide childcare in other FCC programs as needed
- Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as needed or requested by the supervisor
Qualifications
- A minimum of 12 ECE/CD units including core courses (child/human growth & development; child/family/community or child/family relations; and programs/curriculum)
- AA in Education or related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or English and Cantonese strongly preferred
- Confident and respectful classroom management skills and approach
- Strong knowledge of child development and ability to assess for child abuse and unsafe situations
- Experience working effectively in diverse communities of staff and participants required
- Collaborative and self-directed, with the ability to work well in teams and independently
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including listening skills
- Professional ethics of confidentiality, discretion, and good judgment
- Proficiency with full Microsoft Suite and experience with database preferred
- Experience working in a remote workspace, with agility to move from on-site to remote, preferred
- Lives Scan Clearance and physical health/TB clearance required
