Green Powered Technology (GPTech) is seeking a Director of Sustainable Energy to lead the company’s efforts in managing current clean energy-related funded activities and its pursuit of expanded, new funded activities in the U.S. federal, state, and local energy sectors. The Director’s general scope of work is to lead a core business practice area, including executive accountability for in-house and consultant staffing and growth of service capabilities, projects, clients, revenue, and delivery quality. The Director provides expert strategic support services to assist in the management, oversight, and execution of energy programs for existing and new clients, including all aspects of program/project management, technical economic analysis of energy projects/investments, energy strategic planning, stakeholder communications, and new business opportunity identification and pursuit. This position is based in Arlington, Virginia.

Responsibilities
The chosen candidate will be responsible for maintaining technical and strategic leadership of the Sustainable Energy Practice Area, including the following:
  • Supervise and guide Sustainable Energy Practice Area staff, conduct staff performance reviews on a quarterly basis, and support the individuals’ professional development.
  • Provide contract technical and administrative oversight and management direction, including financial and personnel management, ensuring quality and timely delivery of services to clients.
  • Oversee and direct practice area project managers in aligning budgets and monthly spend rates with technical progress against program and project goals within schedule and budget parameters.
  • Provide guidance to project managers on contractual requirements and ensure contract requirements are fulfilled.
  • Maintain client relationships through proactive communication for performance feedback, early identification of challenges, and developing solutions.
  • Engage with current and prospective client representatives to track emerging needs and explore potential opportunities for GPTech support.
  • Represent GPTech to clients and other stakeholders through presentations, meetings, and events (e.g., workshops, conferences, exhibits) to promote awareness of GPTech, and identify prospective opportunities and partners.
  • Identify, pursue, strategize, and lead the preparation of proposals in response to sustainable, low-carbon, efficient, and/or resilient energy opportunities.

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from a U.S. accredited institution in engineering, physical science, environmental sustainability, or related field, plus 10 years of demonstrated relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. accredited institution in engineering, physical science, environmental sustainability, or related field plus 15 years of demonstrated relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience in roles providing in-depth understanding of renewable energy, energy storage, energy efficiency, electric grid planning and operations, energy project development, and broad energy sector status and challenges
  • Proficiency in software tools for research, analysis, reporting, data sharing, and online communications and collaboration
  • At least 5 years of strong experience leading and managing people and teams in a matrix organization, with a record reflecting ability to effectively delegate, communicate with, and motivate staff
  • A successful track record in setting priorities and working under pressure on multiple concurrent projects, using keen analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building skills, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Eligibility to work in the United States and obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to work in the Washington, DC, metro area

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in working with federal agencies, with preference for the U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Department of Transportation, as well as state and local energy-related departments or administrations
  • Program management experience in relevant subject matter at one or more federal agencies
