About You

You’re an experienced marine biologist who has led field studies, authored reports, undertaken statistical analyses and written environmental assessment chapters relating to marine species and ecosystems. You have strong leadership skills and experience working collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams. You’re committed to delivering high-quality work to Hemmera’s existing clients as well as pursuing new opportunities. Your Responsibilities

In your role, you will have the opportunity to take on a wide variety of tasks. Some examples are:
  • Leading marine studies and preparing technical reports.
  • Providing technical and regulatory expertise on projects that interact with marine environments.
  • Leading or coordinating components of environmental assessments.
  • Managing projects from proposals through to the delivery of quality reports.
  • Managing or contributing at a leadership level to the compilation and writing of regulatory submissions
  • Marketing Hemmera's full range of services to existing and potential clients through client meetings, participation in workshops, conferences and similar activities.
  • Liaising with regulatory agencies and Indigenous peoples.
  • Mentoring junior and intermediate staff.

The Essentials

You are solutions-oriented and have the following skills:
  • A university degree in biology or a related field.
  • A professional designation (e.g., R.P.Bio or P.Biol.) or eligibility for a designation.
  • 10 years of progressive experience.
  • Experience leading and conducting marine biology programs.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous experience leading teams within a consultancy practice
  • Ability to think independently and strategically, maintain a positive attitude, be self-motivated and employ a strong work initiative.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic and fast-paced work environment.

Bonus Points

The following attributes may give you a competitive edge:
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with ports, terminals and shipping in BC, Canada, USA or internationally.
  • Experience working with federal regulators on permits and authorizations.
  • Experience collaborating with Indigenous peoples.
  • Experience with offsetting and habitat compensation in the marine environment.
  • Project management experience or a PMP certification.
  • Experience with client liaison and business development.

The role is based in our Burnaby office, but you may be required to travel throughout BC and across Canada and Internationally for short periods of time.
