Overview:
This position serves as an editor of print and digital publications produced by the association and its affiliated foundation. Editing duties include proofreading, copyediting, technical editing, and substantive editing, as well as project management in all phases of print and digital media production. Types of media include magazine articles, membership and marketing materials, and web content.

This position reports to the Director of Publications & Media and is classified as full-time, non-exempt.  

Essential Functions of the Position Include, but Are Not Limited To:
  • Serving as editor for publications and materials (print and digital) produced by HAI
  • Proofreading materials to identify and correct errors in style, spelling, usage, typography, and grammar
  • Copyediting materials for style, spelling, usage, and grammar errors and inconsistencies
  • Performing technical and substantive edits on materials for style, clarity, readability, and consistency
  • Managing print and digital projects including establishing timelines and work plans, working with internal staff on deliverables, and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Providing copywriting assistance as needed
  • Working with graphic designers to create visual content
  • Creating and contributing content to the association media as needed
  • Managing the association’s annual photo contest
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications for the Position Include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Five or more years of related background, training, and experience, including copyediting, substantive editing, and print and web project management
  • Excellent language skills in both writing original content and editing the work of others
  • Experience working with graphic designers to produce visual content
  • Previous association or not-for-profit experience preferred
  • Advanced computer skills and proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adobe Creative Suite skills preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and provide a high level of customer service
  • Working knowledge of Chicago and AP styles
  • Passion for accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly motivated; able to work independently and in a team environment
