Overview:
This position writes and edits industry-relevant content for the association and its affiliated foundation. Types of media include magazine articles, membership and marketing materials, and web content.


This position reports to the Director of Public Relations & Communications and is classified as full-time, exempt.  

Essential Functions of the Position Include, but Are Not Limited To:
  • Manage print and digital communication projects from inception to publication
  • Create and contribute content to the association media
  • Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders to identify content opportunities for HAI members and the helicopter industry overall
  • Develop and write the appropriate content type and style for HAI audiences
  • Evaluate content performance to maximize the success of future HAI publications and media
  • Edit publications and materials (print and digital) produced by HAI
  • Proofread materials to identify and correct errors in style, spelling, usage, typography, and grammar
  • Copyedit materials for style, spelling, usage, and grammar errors and inconsistencies
  • Perform technical and substantive edits on materials for style, clarity, readability, and consistency
  • Collaborate with graphic designers to create visual content
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications for the Position Include:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Five to seven years of related background, training and experience in journalism, content creation, and editing
  • Experience or exposure creating content for the aviation industry preferred
  • Excellent language skills in both writing original content and editing the work of others
  • Ability to manage production timelines and deadlines
  • Experience working with graphic designers to produce visual content
  • Previous association or not-for-profit experience preferred
  • Advanced computer skills and proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adobe Creative Suite skills preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally and provide a high level of customer service
  • Working knowledge of Chicago and AP styles
  • Passion for accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-starter with a strong desire to generate new ideas and identify content opportunities for the association.
  • Highly motivated; able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to travel
