Eligibility Specialist performs all duties associated with consumers who are requesting assistance in applying for Social Security Administration (SSA) benefits. Work involves face to face and phone interviews, processing online applications and ability to adhere to SSA policies and procedures. Person hired will work under general supervision but will work independently, take initiative and use independent judgement. Duties include use of office equipment, knowledge of Office Word, and Excel, and ability to work through several deadlines.

- Working Social Security Application process (from initial to court appeal)
- Transporting clients to Social Security appointments
- Processing records requests for Social Security applicants
- Assisting with Medicare D, Extra Help, and the Medicare Savings Program applications
- Must be able to fax, scan, and have the ability to use computer proficiently
- Transportation of client to the SSA office or to Consultative Exam may be required
- Excellent written, verbal and phone skills with consumers, staff, and community providers is a must
- Time management will be needed to meet supervisor and program guidelines
- Must be task oriented and well organized
- Travel required in and out of region (30-35% of time)
- Ability to be PMAB and CPR certified
- Valid Texas Driver’s License, liability insurance, and reliable transportation required
- Must be able to speak on consumer’s behalf in the appeal process.

- 2 years of college experience preferred (But may substitute years’ experience for each year of college) Preferred
- High school diploma or GED Required
- 1 year of administrative and clerical experience is Required
- 2 years of knowledge and working with Medicaid and Medicare programs Preferred
Hours: Monday thru Friday 8 am-5 pm
Salary: $26,000/year ($12.50 per hour)
