ISL’s Community Planning and Community Development Teams bring decades of experience in both urban and rural communities – providing land development leadership to private developers and municipalities across Western Canada with the support of a full-service engineering firm. Our team is based on:

A Little About You
Your cover letter must:
  • Define what a tight turnaround with a quality product means to you
  • Describe your approach to preparing a development concept/site design

Your resume should show us:
  • 5+ years of experience in concept planning and/or subdivision design experience
  • Ability to read and understand regulatory and statutory documents
  • An understanding of the engineering role in land development
  • Strong spatial awareness and sense of scale
  • Creative flair
  • Ability to synthesize and coordinate information from a variety of sources

Bonus points for:
  • Established relationships with Developers in Alberta
  • Involvement in BILD Committees
  • Experience in Policy Planning
  • Experience reviewing land development applications on behalf of municipalities
  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and Alberta Professional Planners Institute or an equivalent provincial institute
  • Past representation of clients on land development application submissions


A Little More About the Role
Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate is a solution-oriented, confident person with a team mentality. Your ability to listen, interpret, and be flexible in the solutions delivered to our clients will be key to your success. While no two days may look the same, you can expect to:
  • Work as a part of a multidisciplinary OneISL team to deliver land development projects
  • Be an active participant in client meetings to build and foster client relationships
  • Leverage your spatial awareness and visionary ability to generate development efficient concepts for our clients that are easy to understand and fulfill their needs while also adhering to local statutory plans
  • Apply your understanding of how design impacts the economic feasibility of a project
  • Author area structure plans and non-statutory land development plans (outline plans, neighbourhood plans, conceptual schemes etc.) and deliver site designs
  • Provide support to other planning functions and act as a conduit between design and site planning
