Your resume should show us:
  • Degree or Technologist Diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Design and Drafting, Construction Management or related field from an accredited institution
  • Registered as or eligibility to register as a C.Tech. or C.E.T. with ASET or as an E.I.T. or P.Eng. with APEGA
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction contract administration with the City of Calgary (or equivalent), Alberta Transportation and/or other municipal government clients in the Calgary area, including a list of key municipal or transportation projects you have been involved in
  • Construction site inspection experience
  • Proficiency in tender preparation, specification development, cost estimating, construction and contract administration, and project closeout documentation
  • Preparation and review of key contractor submittals such as traffic accommodation and detour plans, care of water plans, ECO plans and ESC plans
  • Full understanding and application of City of Calgary and/or Alberta Transportation construction specifications

Bonus points for: 
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • B.Sc. CPM, CPESC or Can-CISEC designation
  • Design of ESC Plans
  • Mentoring of junior staff
  • Construction survey and/or materials testing experience


A Little More About the Role
Responsibilities:
We are flexible with the start date for the role, but look to have the successful applicant start in April 2022 at the latest.

This role is based in Calgary with potential for longer-distance / longer-duration travel within Southern Alberta or Western Canada. Increased working hours during the construction season are to be expected, with the choice to bank overtime for time off in slower winter months.
We are looking for someone with a keen attention to detail, someone who can complete both quality control checks of themselves, and the work of others. You will require and must maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License.  A company vehicle will be provided.  You will also:
  • Work with a diverse team of project managers, engineers, planners, and technologists to deliver excellent service to our clients
  • Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, clients, contractors, and community members affected by our projects
  • Observe safe work practices to protect the health and safety of yourself, co-workers, and others on active construction sites
  • Provide constructability review of design drawings on a variety of civil projects
  • Produce construction quantity take-offs and cost estimates from design drawings
  • Prepare tender / contract documents and project specifications using City of Calgary or Alberta Transportation templates
  • Lead construction inspections, construction reporting, design clarifications, third-party utility coordination, material testing and survey coordination during the construction phase of our design projects
  • Organize and chair construction meetings as well as prepare and issue the meeting minutes
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly construction reports according to client requirements (City of Calgary, Alberta Transportation, or others)
  • Work in accordance with ISL’s Quality Management processes to ensure technical quality of deliverables
  • Respond to contractor’s RFIs; preparing and issuing Contemplated Change Notices, Change Orders, Change Directives and Site Instructions
  • Complete quantity verification and review of contractor’s progress claims
  • Arrange and conduct CCC / FAC inspections and issuance of related certificates
  • Prepare record drawings and project closeout documents
