Your resume should show us:
  • P.Eng. with 10+ years’ experience in BC
  • Demonstrated ability to win highway, urban roads, port, transit and/or rural highway projects and lead Ministry projects
  • Knowledge of best practice and guidelines with respect to urban street design and rural roadways as well as provincial, regional, and local planning processes
  • Familiarity with provincial, regional, and local planning processes
  • Direct experience with, or at the least, familiarity with planning and design software including AutoCAD, Auto Turn, ArcGIS, Synchro, SimTraffic, Sidra, Vissim, VISUM, EMME

Bonus points for:
  • PMP Designation
  • PTP or PTOE Designation
  • Translink/Airport/Port of Vancouver Experience
  • Aviation, transit, port and marine (sectors)

A Little More About the Role
Reporting to the Acting Manager of Transportation Planning, the Senior Transportation Planning Engineer will lead their own projects and help advance the Transportation Planning discipline at ISL alongside our municipal, highways, and traffic and road safety engineers. The ideal candidate will have their sights set on leadership as the role offers the opportunity for career advancement in the form of leading and managing the Transportation Planning team.

The team is award winning and highly experienced. You will further build upon the team’s previous successes by bringing in complimentary work from the Ministry and other key clients.  You won’t need to wait for someone to tell you what to do, you will have the freedom and flexibility to chart your own path and work collaboratively with the larger Transportation team on full cycle project delivery.  Collaboration is just how we work – we have each other’s backs and all without the constraints that a lot of other organizations have.  Your development is up to you – either through a variety of projects or fully funded education experiences. 

Business Development
  • Maintain connections with municipal, provincial, port, and airport clients
  • Proposal writing, project cost estimating, and timely delivery of successful project proposals
  • Attend client meetings, conferences, mixers, and develop marketing materials for each
  • Present project successes at conferences and attend industry technical committees

Project Success
  • Project management of projects of all sizes, including scope, schedule, budget, and client liaison
  • Management of project teams and liaison with internal disciplines as well as external sub-consultants as necessary
  • Community engagement with stakeholders and the public, including event organization, attendance, presentation, and analytical support
  • Transportation data collection and analysis to document existing conditions and determine future needs
  • Author concise problem definition statements based on existing/future conditions and develop solutions that address the defined problem
  • Undertake cost benefit analysis, multi-account evaluation analysis and author business cases to support a preferred option
  • Preparation of written material to document project work including memo’s, reports, plans, policies, briefing materials and guidelines in a clear and concise manner
  • Design for urban roadway projects including complete street improvements and other multi-modal infrastructure
  • Work with the highway design group to develop concept designs and options for urban and rural highway projects
  • Work in accordance with Quality Management processes, ensure technical quality of deliverables, and ensure schedule milestones are achieved

Team Building
  • Participate in weekly project meetings to ensure that we have the right people and right skills aligned to projects
  • Provide clear direction to the team and ask for it where necessary
  • Communicate with internal and external clients and partners
  • Guide and mentor staff
