  • How you build and maintain effective client and contractor relationships
  • How you approach problems as they come up and resolve them when time is ticking away

Your resume should show us:
  • Degree or Technologist Diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Design and Drafting, Construction Management or related field from an accredited institution
  • Registered as or eligibility to register as a C.Tech or C.E.T with ASET or as and E.I.T. or P.Eng. with APEGA
  • 5+ years’ experience in construction inspection for municipal or transportation projects, include a list of these projects
  • Experience monitoring contractor performance in transportation or municipal construction contracts
  • Experience in construction contract administration, which includes preparation and or review of the following documents:
    • Site instructions, notice of proposed changes, change directives, change orders, non-conformance reports
    • Progress quantity review, prepare progress payment recommendations, and project closeout documentation (substantial, construction and final completion certificates)
  • Preparation and review of key contractor submittals such as traffic accommodation and detour plans, care of water plans, ECO plans and ESC plans
Bonus points for:
  • Experience with bid preparation, specification writing and cost estimation
  • Experience in construction inspection with the City of Calgary (or equivalent), Alberta Transportation and/or other municipal government clients in the Calgary area
  • Understanding and application of City of Calgary and/or Alberta Transportation construction specifications
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil3D software
  • B.Sc. CPM, CPESC or Can-CISEC designation
  • Design of ESC Plans
  • Mentoring of junior staff
  • Construction survey and/or materials testing experience

A Little More About the Role
We are looking for a Contract Administrator, Construction Inspector, or a bit of both.  Below you will find the accountabilities of both roles. Don’t worry about checking all the boxes, we encourage you to apply if you have experience that aligns with any or both of the roles.
The Contract Administrator leads the delivery of construction services on a diverse array of civil, transportation or municipal infrastructure projects. Your role as the Contract Administrator includes:
  • Participation in procurement (e.g., constructability reviews of designs, review of tender documents, schedules of quantities, cost estimates, bid reviews)
  • Leadership during construction (either on-site or from the office) interpreting and upholding contract requirements, guiding construction delivery, and bringing together post-construction activities; and
  • Guiding your support team in progress payment reviews and recommendations to the client, setting up and implementing document controls, progress reporting (daily, weekly, or monthly), and help in solving problems with the contractors, third-party utilities, and clients
The Construction Inspector will be our on-site presence, the eyes and ears of ISL and the clients. You will actively collaborate with contractors to implement construction designs in accordance with project specifications and clients’ expectations. Your role as Construction Inspector includes:
  • On-site presence to conduct site inspections and ask questions of the contractor to confirm conformance to project specifications, their ECO, ESC, and TAS plans, and client expectations
  • Agile mindset to identify issues before they happen, or respond immediately with your ideas and gathering relevant input from the team to resolve any on-site concerns; and
  • Effective communication with contractors during progress payment preparations by confirming agreement with quantities, document daily the project progress, field changes, and deficiency lists. 

For both roles, we are flexible with the start date and look to have the successful applicant start in April 2023 at the latest.
This role is based in Calgary with potential for travel within Calgary and surrounding area.  You will require and must
maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s License.  A company vehicle will be provided.

Please note that increased working hours during the construction season are to be expected, with the choice to bank
overtime for time-off in slower winter months.
