A Little About You
Your cover letter must demonstrate:
- A listing of the major electrical projects you have been involved in, including any experience with roadway lighting, traffic signal, or municipal electrical system design
- Your approach to problem solving and challenging the ideas of others
Your resume should show us:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Electrical Technology or a combination of education and experience
- Registered as P.Eng. or Engineer-in-Training with APEGA or Civil Engineering Technologist registered with APEGA or ASET
- Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and the Alberta Electrical Utility Code (AEUC)
- Experience with low and medium voltage distribution equipment (cables, transformers, switches, switchgear, grounding, bonding etc.)
- Diverse experience in collaborative and multi-disciplinary infrastructure delivery projects
- Experience with Urban Municipalities and/or Alberta Transportation, including design guidelines and approval processes
- Experience in AutoCAD / Civil3D as well as Microsoft business products and PDF software for drawing markups and comment tracking
- Writing skills and experience for a variety of deliverables
Bonus points for:
- Experience with roadway lighting design, lighting design software (e.g., AGi32), lighting calculations, and equipment
- Experience with traffic signal design, below ground electrical conduit layout and cable routing, and construction activities
- Familiarity with process to apply for new electrical services, and coordinate energization and enrollment of new electrical systems
- Willingness to live or relocate to the Lethbridge, Alberta area
A Little More About the Role
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will be exposed to the entire project lifecycle - from concept planning through detailed design, tender, and construction services.
- Assist with the preparation of the design, specifications and tenders for client-specific traffic signal control and illumination projects
- Complete warrant evaluations for roadway illumination, traffic signals, advance warning flashers, left turn phasing, etc.
- Develop lighting designs for interchanges, intersections, roadway, and pedestrian corridors using AGi32 software to meet required lighting levels and to determine pole spacing, luminaire, and shielding requirements
- Coordinate with power service providers to determine project-specific power supply sources and energization requirements
- Complete electrical design for traffic signal control and illumination systems including cable, conduit, and junction box selection and layout
- Design power supply cabinets and electrical panels to meet project-specific circuit and loading requirements
- Complete voltage drop and cable fill calculations
- Prepare single line diagrams, electrical schematics and material lists
- Apply relevant codes, standards and guidelines including the Canadian Electric Code (CEC), the Alberta Electric Utility Code (AEUC), and guidelines from the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC), Alberta Transportation, and Illuminating Engineering Society (IES), etc.
- Draft drawing packages using AutoCAD, MicroStation and Bluebeam software
- Review third party designs to ensure accuracy and compliance with project as a whole
- Assist with preparation of memos, reports, cost estimates and other materials to document and support project-specific design work
- Assist with contract administration and construction supervision, as required
- Coordinate with team members and participate in team meetings in-person, where possible, and remotely via Microsoft Teams software
- Collaborate with multi-discipline project teams and liaison with internal ISL disciplines as well as external sub-consultants to address complex project problems and provide comprehensive project solutions
- Work in accordance with Quality Management processes, ensure technical quality of deliverables, and ensure schedule milestones are achieved
- Work independently
