A Little About You

Your cover letter must demonstrate: 
  • Experience with or interest in developing skills in Structural Engineering
  • Your approach to creative problem solving and decision making

Your resume should show us: 
  • Education with relevant focus
  • Registration as an EIT or eligible to register
  • Education/ knowledge of seismic design
  • Education/knowledge of application of structural theory, the National Building Code of Canada (NBC 2020), the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (S6) and Canadian Design Standards (O86, S16, A23.3)
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as CSiBridge, SAP2000 and SFRAME
  • Working knowledge of Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excel and MS Project

Bonus points for:
  • Experience with BIM software (Revit)
  • Experience with construction
  • Experience with report writing
  • Post Graduate level education

A Little More About the Role


Your projects will primarily be located in the ISL Burnaby office, but you will have the opportunity to work on multidisciplinary projects across all of the ISL offices.   

  • Prepare detailed structural engineering designs from concept, through tender to construction for a wide variety of projects. Starting with individual task moving to systems and whole project life cycle
  • Assemble and review structural deliverables in collaboration with other team members
  • Review and coordinate deliverables with other project team members including architectural, civil, landscape, process, mechanical, electrical, contractors and suppliers as each project requires
  • Participate in project meetings as needed
  • Complete assessments and prepare reports for various buildings and structures
  • Support construction administration objectives and perform field reviews, including travel to remote locations (a valid driver’s license and ability to drive ISL’s fleet vehicles are required)
  • Observe and maintain quality assurance practices and documentation standards on all projects
  • Creating and/or leveraging custom spreadsheets and MCAD sheets
  • Be a lifelong learner, stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Collaborate with, advise, and assist team members in other groups and offices
  • Other related duties as assigned
